With NCAA Champ Angela Williams (USC/So Cal Cheetahs) on hand, this event was loaded, with the Californian, the National High School Record holder off her 11.11 in this Championship meet at Edwardsville last year. The mixture of first year frosh and the best preps makes for a good mixture, with some great action. Amaris Buchanan (Long Beach State), one of those So Cal preps in Angela Williams' jet stream the last few years, has improved mightily, with an 11.46 best this Spring, a time she equalled in a 11.46w (+2.6) first heat win on Friday. Alexis Joyce, the Denver soph and latest of Coach Tony Wells' Colorado Flyers, took Heat 2 in 11.41w (+2.5), with University of South Carolina frosh Me'Lisa Barber 11.43w (+3.8) taking Heat 3, with Angela Williams handling New Jersey prep Aleah Williams 11.41w (+3.0) - 11.52w in Heat 4. It took 11.77w to make the Finals!

Late Friday evening a great group lined up for the Finals, and there would be some great competition for the two individual and probably four 4x100 relay positions that would come from this finals run. As the group came to the blocks for the first time, Alexis Joyce was given a false start for what appeared to be a response to cheers for a close field event. The short Colorado star needed a good start to place high, so this was significant. When the event was off Angela Williams pulled away as expected to the win, 11.27w (+2.1), with Joyce surprising with the race of her life in second at 11.46w to edge Buchanan 11.48w and Aleah Williams 11.49w.
