With footballer Scott sticking to the 100, Marquis Davis was the star of the 200 this weekend. Giving up about a meter and a half to eventual Finals second placer Jerrod Braziel (Ft. Worth prep) in Heat 2 of the qualifying on Sunday, Davis proceeded to power his 6-1 187 frame off the middle of the turn into the straightaway with one of those classic sprint styles. Much like last year's Junior National Champ, Texas prep Tory Mitchell, who was held back late this spring with injuries, Davis rolls down the straight with knees seemingly an inch or two higher with each stride, blasting away from the field to a 20.83w (+2.7) win, with Braziel 21.05 in second. The Braziel's, Jerrod and Jerome are pretty identical twins, moving on to TCU next year to both play defensive back.

Anyway, in the Finals, Jerrod Braziel was in lane 5, with Davis in 6. Marquis did not seem to alter his tactics much for the Finals, giving up the same meter and a half to the Texan around the turn, then cranking it way up down the straightaway, blasting 20.77 with 1.6 meters per second of wind, the nation's fastest prep time of the year. Braziel ran a fine 20.98 in second. Davis later commented that he had run harder in this race than any during the season, with his general tactical plan not changing from past contests. In his 20.84 State meet win second place was back at 21.71, so there certainly was a bit more company along for a longer time. This guy has the gears!
