Jamaicans take top 2 spots, Americans next 2 in 4x400 qualifiers - Two Jamaican teams and two American teams were the top qualifiers for the HS girls championship 4x400.  The top four times in 39 heats were run by JAM Vere Technical 3:44.56, JAM St. Jago 3:44.83, PA Simon Gratz 3:45.43, and VA Bethel 3:48.46.

Jennifer Donovan holds off Sheila Agrawal in stirring 3000 Meters - Jennifer Donovan, NY Half Hollow Hills, and Sheila Agrawal, MA Joseph Case, battled stride for stride through the last two laps before Donovan prevailed in 9:42.41 to 9:43.86.  It was a 3-girl race for five laps led by Liz Reusser, WI Middleton, but first Donovan and then Agrawal passed Reusser.  Donovan on the inside was challenged repeatedly by Agrawal on the outside, but refused to give up the lead.  Finally, on the last turn, Agrawal had no more surges left. Donovan told the press: "That race was so tough I can't even believe it.  I totally wanted to give up but I figured it was now or never."  New Yorker Jillian Mastroianni was thwarted in her bid to become the first runner to win this race three years in a row. (Thursday afternoon)

Prendergast wins great DMR - With two lead changes in the last 200 meters, a thrilling girls distance medley was won by PA Archbishop Prendergast in 11:59.12.  Prendy Sheila Klick anchored in 4:53.5.  Saratoga Springs (12:01.98) led most of the race, but VA Thomas Jefferson (12:00.27) anchor Kelly Otstott and Klick stalked  the leader through the 1600 meter leg.  On the last lap, both stepped it up on the backstretch and Otstott took the lead on the far turn, only to have Klick take the last lead down the home stretch.  Klick was named the outstanding high school female athlete  in relays.
Stephanie Snyder wins Mile - Stephanie Snyder, NJ Randolph, was an easy winner of the girls mile in 4:53.43. (Note: this is a correction from the track announced winner Sharon O'Connor.) (Thursday afternoon)
LaTanya Parker edges Eliese Mitchell by 1/2 inch in girls SP - A half inch was all that separated the top two in girls shot put, with LaTanya Parker, NY Newark, the winner at 45-11.75, and Eliese Mitchell, PA Garden Spot, second.
Jamaican Camille Robinson wins HJ  in 5-6.5 - Five girls made the same height in high jump, with Jamaican Camille Robinson, JAM Vere Technical, winning on fewest misses.  Next were DelRhea Godwin, MD Glen Burnie; Deirdre Mullen, NJ Notre Dame; Cheryl Burdick, NJ Ramsey; and Jennifer Nelms, PA Spotsylvania.

Jamaican girls sweep LJ, TJ - Outstanding jumps by Elva Goulbourne, JAM Dinthill Technical (21-0) and Shelly-Ann Gallimore, JAM Meadowbrook (41-9.75) gave Jamaica a sweep of the horizontal jumps.  Goulbourne's leap would have won the college competition today, and it earned her the award as outstanding female high school athlete in individual events. Three more girls were over 19' in long jump: Pun Chittchang, MD South Carroll (19-8.25); Lynn Harris, DE Christiana (19-5.5); and Jessica DeFrietas, MD E.
