Dear Coach,
You and your high school boys' and girls' track and field teams
are cordially invited to participate in the Capital Beltway 1999
Track and Field Classic! The meet will take place Saturday,
April 3, 1999, at the University of Maryland - Baltimore County
(UMBC) Track and Field Complex, 5401 Wilkens Ave., Baltimore, MD
- home of the Maryland State High School Track and Field Meets!
Moreover, the complex has a state of the art Martin 2000 lightning
fast, 8-lane track. The first running event will begin at 9:00am, and
the first field events will begin at 9:15am.
Meet entry forms are enclosed and should be received by us no later
than March 29, 1999. Entry forms should be addressed to:
Capital Beltway 1999 Track and Field Classic, C/O Sam Caldwell,
9106 McHenry Lane, Lanham, MD 20706. Faxes and express mail
are acceptable. Our FAX number is 301-577-0381, and you may
call 301-577-5293 to verify receipt. Teams may enter only 2 athletes
in each open event and only 2 relay teams. There is a $65 entry fee
for each boys' team and a $65 fee for each women's team.
Proceeds from this event will be used to support the New Carrollton (MD)
Boys and Girls Club. In addition, checks and money orders should be
made payable to the "New Carrollton Boys and Girls Club."
This meet will provide excellent competition for your student-athletes,
therefore, please provide accurate seed times. As you know, accurate
seed times provide for very competitive and exciting races. The following
information is enclosed for your convenience: Directions to UMBC, general
information, a schedule of events and entry forms. Please make additional
copies of the entry forms, if necessary.

- Girls will precede boys in all running events
- All running and field events are final, based on time and distance,
except the 100M Dash.
- Athletes will have 4 attempts in the Long Jump, Triple Jump,
Discus, and Shot Put. There will be no finals.
- If we get ahead of schedule, we will proceed to the next event.
Therefore, please advise your athletes to pay close attention to
the schedule and the calls.

Awards Presentation |
Date/Time: Saturday, April 3, 1999. The first running event
will start at 9:00AM and the
first field events will start at 9:15AM. Coaches may pick up meet packets
Saturday morning at 8:30AM. There will be a coaches meeting at 8:30 on the
infield near the start/finish line.
Location: University of Maryland Baltimore County, 5401 Wilkens
Ave., Baltimore, MD
Timing: FinishLynx Timing System will be used for automatic
electronic timing.
Facilities: The track is synthetic, all-weather, Martin 2000, 8
- 42 inch lanes with 2 long
jump/ triple jump pits. Maximum track spike length: 1/4 inch. There will be a
concessions stand selling food and beverages.
Parking: There is plenty of parking a short distance from the
track, including spaces for
buses.
Medical Info: There will be trainers available for athletes who
are injured. However,
teams are strongly encouraged to bring their own trainers, taping, and massage
personnel. Ice will be available and an ambulance will be on call.
Sanction: This meet is sanctioned through the National High
School Federation. Therefore, only eligible student-athletes will be allowed to compete.
This is not an open track meet.
Uniforms: All competing athletes must wear a school issued
uniform and all relay teams must wear matching uniforms. For example, if one member of a
relay team wears tights,
then all members of the team must wear tights.
Awards: Awards will given to the top 3 boys' and girls' teams.
Individual awards will be
given to the top 3 finalists in each event. Trophies will be awarded for first place,
and medals for second and third place. In addition, a Most Outstanding Female and
Male Athlete Award will be presented, based on voting by head coaches only.
