Nike Indoor Classic
Shuttle Hurdle Relay Added
2/1/99 -- Nike Indoor Classic Co-Meet Director Jim Spier announced today they would add a Shuttle Hurdle Relay to the NIC program in Columbus.
Said Spier, “When we started this type meet in 1984 it was to give great athletes and teams the chance to break records.” It was Spier’s meet in 1983, the Record Assault, that lead to the Pathmark Classic which became the National Scholastic Indoor Championships. “That’s what we’re doing here, offering a super team, Woodrow Wilson (Camden NJ) a chance to break a record, albeit an unofficial one.”
Wilson coach David Cade was ecstatic when told the event would be added to the program. “That’s all we wanted, one more chance. This is great.”
Mike Byrnes, who along with Tracy Sundlun, are the other two Meet Directors as well as
the founders of the Pathmark Classic, added, “If
there are other teams out there who would like to enter, please give me a call.”
