98 MD Indoor State Meet

Rules of the Meet

These are selected rules from the MPSSAA Indoor Track Bulletin, 1998-99 Winter.

  1. GENERAL
    1. The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) runs the state meet under plans formulated by the State Indoor Track Committee and the Board of Control
    2. Eligibility rules are defined in MPSSAA Bylaw .02 in the MPSSAA Handbook.
    3. General regulations for state tournaments are in MPSSAA Bylaw .07 in the MPSSAA Handbook.
  2. REGION AND STATE MEETS
    1. Meet Organization
      1. Meets at the Baltimore Armory
        1. No teams permitted inside before 3 p.m.
        2. Balconies and basement are off limits.
        3. All events begin at 3:30 p.m.
        4. High Jump and shot put will be suspended during 55 meter dash and hurdle events.
        5. No concessions or food will be sold during regional meets.
      2. No dressing facilities are available; athletes should come dressed for competition.
    2. Playing Rules
      1. National Federation rules apply unless modified in the Bulletin.
      2. Any entered athlete may participate on the school's relay teams.
      3. If maximum participation rule (4 events) is violated, the individual forfeits further participation in the State Indoor Track Meet, and any relay team using an athlete who exceeded the limit is excluded from the state meet.
      4. No shoes with spikes are allowed.
      5. Spraying soles of shoes is prohibited; any infraction will result in disqualification of the competitor.
      6. Starting blocks will be provided by the meet director.
      7. Recommended number of participants per section in distance events: 800 meters - 9; 1600 meters - 12; 3200 meters - 18; 4x800 relay - 9.
      8. Slower sections will preceed fast sections.
      9. Pole vaulters will weigh in when they arrive.
      10. Shots will be approved by meet officials; participants will receive 3 attempts in single rotation; top 7 advance to finals for 3 additional attempts.
  3. . REGION MEET
    1. Entries must be signed by the coach, athletic director, and school principal and delivered to the meet director 10 days prior to the meet.
    2. Each school is allowed three entries per individual event and one team per relay event.
    3. Scratches are due 3 business days before the meet.
    4. No additions are allowed in any event
    5. Athletes may participate in a maximum of 4 events; a scratch counts as an event.
    6. Recommended opening heights in vertical jumps: Girls High Jump, 4' 4; Girls Pole Vault, 6' 6; Boys High Jump, 5' 6; Boys Pole Vault, 9' 0.
    7. Admission charge for spectators 7 years of age or older is $4; no re-entry.
    8. Awards: Plaque to first place team overall - ribbons to top 6 individuals per event.
  4. . STATE MEET
    1. Meet Organization
      1. Regional directors must bring results to the seeding committee meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 20, at the Baltimore City Board of Education, 200 North Avenue, Baltimore MD.
      2. Regional champions will be top seeds; remaining seeds will be based on performance.
      3. Lane seeds for the 300, 500, 4x200, and 4x400 will be 2-3-4-1; all other races on the oval will be seeded from lane 1 out.
    2. Playing Rules
      1. Opening heights in vertical jumps will be determined by the Games Committee at the state seeding meeting.
      2. Shots will be weighed.
      3. Competitors not ready when called by the event official will be charged with a trial in field events, and could be disqualified in running events.
      4. Competitors must notify the event official when leaving one event to go to another event.
    3. General Policies
      1. Admission is $5 for spectators 7 years or older.
      2. Awards: Plaques for first and second place teams overall; medals to first 3 finishers per individual event and ribbons to next 3 finishers.
      3. Only competitors in uniform and meet officials are allowed on the track or infield.
      4. No audible radios, tape players, or other audio devices are permitted at the meet.
