Dwight Thomas of Jamaica, who came to the US to attend high school, led High Point to victory in the National Guard Games by winning the 55 meter dash (6.4h) and 55 meter hurdles (7.3h). Thomas told the Washington Post he chose High Point because he was impressed with Modibo's exploits there. Thomas competed for Jamaica at the World Junior Games in France last summer. Meanwhile, Modibo, who was national prep champion in the 200 and 400 meters last year, opened his college career at Clemson January 16 by winning the 500 meters in 1:01.80 in the Clemson Invitational. Douglass won the girls meet with Joy Parker winning the 1,500 in 5 minutes 4.6 seconds and running the leadoff leg on the winning 4x400 relay team. Western of Baltimore was second with 40 points. There were 68 teams and 1,300 athletes competing in the meet, all from Maryland. K.C. Allen of Calvert broke her armory pole vault record at 10-9, with Lori Tvarkunas of Glenelg second at 10-6.
