Subject: t-and-f: OHIO HS XC Champ Results

The Ohio HS XC Boys Championships were decided a week early when 5 of the

top seven and 11 of the top 20 division I HS programs in the State wide

poll met at the Southwestern Ohio XC Championships to decide which 4 teams

will advance to the offical championships on 1Nov in Columbus. (And the

NCAA thinks they have a problem getting the best teams to Nationals).

ALL DISTANCES 5K for both Boys & Girls

And the winners were:

BOYS - DIV I:

Cincinnati Elder 95, Centerville 110, Cincinnati St. Xavier 115,

Cincinnati LaSalle 156

Major schools left home: 5th) Lakota West 169, Dayton Carroll 195,

Cincinnati Oak Hills 210, Harrison 222, Cincinnati Colerain 224, plus 7 more.

Individually Joe Barnes was impressive. On a mental lapse he took the

wrong path about 1K into the 5K race with about a 30 meter lead. After

retracing his error he rejoined the lead group by the mile. After working

back to a 20 meter lead by two, Godsey appeared alongside at 2 and a half.

But over the last 300 meters he bulled his way the victory.

1) Joe Barnes, Northmont HS (All American in USATF Junior Olympics XC last

fall) 15:35,

2) Pat Kellar, Centerville (JR) 15:43; 3) Brian Godsey, Lakota East 15:47

4) Kevin Sweetman 15:53 5) Justin Hussel, Colerain 15:54; 6) Mason Ward,

Colerain 15:56. 7)Derrick Butler, Lasalle 16:01, 8) Steve Padgett, LaSalle

16:02, 9) Adam Thomas, Fairfield 16:04; 10)David Albers, Vandalia 16:06.

And the Women's Division I Race went this way:

The local paper reported that #3 stated ranked Beavercreek's Tara & Cara

twins were ill (And looked it over the last part of the race) Still

Beavercreek nailed down the runner-up spot to the National Women's

powerhouse squad from Cincinnati Colerain. Third went easily to Anderson

HS while 4th (well 4th is a story in and of itself).

After the finish - raw scores had Centerville 1 point ahead of Northmont,

which had finished 5th (and not advancing to state) 3 straight years. Then

the adjusted scores were announced and Northmont had placed 1 point ahead

of arch rival Centerville. But the Centerville coach filed a protest on

the order of finish in the chute. After the finish tapes were reviewed the

protest was upheld and the contested position adjusted (another girl had

run by a Centerville girl in a close finish after crossing the line). Now

the score stood at 158 all and went to the Tie-breaker to decide which team

advanced to State. Northmont's 6th placed 79th compared to 110th for

Centerville.

SCORES: Colerain 41 (All the top 5 were under 19:40), Beavercreek 110,

Anderson 143, Northmont 158, Centerville 158, Cincinnati Seton 186,

Sycamore 207, Middletown 227, Lakota East 250, and 7 more.

Individually Kristian Jumer of Centerville had the most impressive race,

always pushing the pace. She didn't win, losing in an all out sprint to

the finish on slight difference in stridelength alone. Northmont's Briana

Killian had a breakthough race for her team busting the 19 minute barrier.

1)Allison Zeinner, Colerain 18:12 2)Kristian Jumer, Centerville 18:13 3)
