Grant" <[email protected]> Netters: Haddonfield frosh Erin Donohue again took the spotlight as the New Jersey HS cross-country season reached its halfway point last weekend. In her first start on the South Jersey sectional course at Kingsway, Donohue annihilated the course record with a 17:07 victory in the C section of the South Jersey Open. She took 34 seconds off the record set three years ago by Jamie Weisgerber of Woodstown, who was the all-agroup champion that year. The Kingsway course is flat and probably no more than 3M long. Times for the top girls generally run 70-75 seconds faster than at the Holmdel state championship course. Christian Brothers had an easy win in the much-depleted Eastern boys' race at Van Cortlandt park. The conflict between this meet and the SJ Open kept Donohue and the other SJ stars from getting a shot at Van Cortlandt Park's classic 2.5M course this year. Some of them will, however, be up for the Footlocker Trials, including Murad Campbell of Overbrook, who broke the boys' course record at Kingsway with a 14:58 race. The past week also saw the opening of the championship meet season, but most of the state's top boys and girls teams (outside of SJ) simply took the weekend off to prepare for the next five weeks of title action. The big meet this coming week will be the Iron Hills Conference on Oct. 23 at Warinanco Park, Elizabeth, with three ranked boys and girls teams apiece in the Iron Division races. There follows the top finishers, team and individual, in the SJ Open, then a quick review of the other weekend action: SOUTH JERSEY GIRLS A: T-Shawnee 44, Brick 59, Chke 94. 1-K.C.
