Mount St. Mary's Invitational
EMMITSBURG MD, 9/13/97 - Governor Mifflin High School girls of Reading PA dominated the first running of the
Mount St. Mary's Invitational by taking 10 of the top 16 places. Southern Garrett (Oakland MD) took the boys title
in a close match with DeMatha, 79-89.
Individually, Meghan McLaughlin of Marshall HS (VA) won the girls race in 20:03.4 over the flat 5K course, and
Thad Minshall of Landon HS was the boys winner in 16:52.7, one second ahead of Dan Sweeney of Gonzaga.
Mount St. Mary's college coach Mike Merritt was pleased with the turnout for the inaugural event (13 girls and
17 boys teams from four states) and said the Mount would hold it again next year.
