MD State Cross Country Meet

Rules of the Meet

Source: MPSSAA 1997-98 Fall Cross Country Bulletin

Distance: 3 mile course

Playing Rules: Per National Federation, except no jewelry.

Number of athletes: Maximum of 7 per school.

How they qualify

for REGIONALS

Individual:

On active roster of team by October 10, 1977
Participated in at least two meets when the school had a team (see below) prior to October 30; time must be less than 30 minutes.

Team:

Officially scored (finished 5 runners) in 2 regular season varsity meets prior to October 30.

for STATES

Individual:

Top 25 percent of runners in regional; minimum of 15 qualify for the state championship meet.

Team:

Top 50 percent of complete teams in region
Add one team if odd number of teams
For number of teams, boys and girls are counted separately
If 5 runners from a school qualify as individuals, they will count as a team at the state championship meet.
Minimum of 2 teams finishing 5 runners in the regional will advance.

The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) is the official government body of the meet, supported by a State Cross Country Committee, whose officials are:
