Middletown Boys, Linganore Girls Finish 2nd in 27-school Meet

Middletown's boys and Linganore's girls finished second among 27 teams in the 25th Woodward Relays at Walter Johnson High School on a cold, rainy day.

Boys: The high jump was Middletown's only gold medal, but the Knights were solid contenders in several other events, including third place in the sprint medley, discus, and 4x400 (3:36.1); second in the 4x1600; and sixth in the 4x800 (8:26.4) and 300 hurdles. Brett Embrey's 40.8 lap in the 300 hurdles is best for the year in Western Maryland.

Linganore's distance runners distinguished themselves by winning three events: distance medley, 4x800 and 4x1600. The Lancers' 4x800 time of 8:09.32 is also an area best for the year.

Girls: The Linganore girls won no single event, but got points in eight events: second in the shuttle hurdles, 4x1600 (23:42), and discus; third in the 4x100 (52.6) and 300 hurdles (3:31.6); fourth in the 4x800 (10:09.7) and 4x400 (4:26); and fifth in the 4x200 (1:50.5).
