Washington Independent Schools Championship - Pat Jacxsens 16:43 and Heights boys 35; Lucy Dinsmore 20:43 and Field girls 51.  Glenelg MD 11/7/98
Baltimore County Championships - a Dulaney sweep - Greg Vincent 16:46 and Dulaney boys 47; Kerrie Haacke 20:49 and Dulaney girls 30. Hereford HS 10/28/98
Baltimore City Championships - Alex Scully 17:52 and Poly boys 47; Western girls 28; Deborah Green, Northern 21:41. Baltimore MD 10/26/98
Carroll County Championships - Westminster swept as Jason Santucci 16:43 led the boys over South Carroll, 24-32 (5th win of the year over South Carroll, all by less than 10 points); Colleen Lawson, North Carroll was the girls winner in 20:09. Western Maryland College, Westminster 10/29/98
Frederick County Championships - Girls: Middletown placed 6 girls in the top 11 for a decisive 27-52 win over Linganore.  Urbana, paced by individual winner Liz Lowrie (19:54) was third, 61.  Boys: Middletown edged Thomas Johnson, 37-44, with a 3-4-5-11-14 pack.  Shawn Day of TJ was the individual winner in 16:24.  Linganore 69 and Urbana 86 were 3rd and 4th.  Woodsboro MD 10/31/98
Montgomery County Championships - Whitman's 3-4-10-11-12 pack beats Gatihersburg 40-58 for the boys championship, while Walter Johnson (74) wins the girls title; Jarrett Van Tine, BCC (15:06.3) is an 8-second winner over David Glynn, Walter Johnson; the Quince Orchard Hull twins go 1-2 in the girls race, with Lucinda first in 18:03.8, 19 seconds ahead of sister Claudin. Howard County Championships - River Hill sweeps; Lee McDuff 18:49 (3 mi); Zach Heidepriem, River Hill, noses out Jon Goldsmith, Glenelg, both timed in 16:14.  Columbia MD 10/29/98
Washington County Championships - North Hagerstown sweeps. 10/28/98
Central Maryland Conference - Westminster sweeps; Jason Santucci 16:11 and Westminster boys 34, South Carroll 41; Colleen Lawson, North Carroll 19:36; Westminster girls 49, Urbana 54. at Kemptown MD 10/24/98
Harford County Championships - C. Milton Wright sweeps.  10/22/98
Western Maryland Championships - Shawn Day 16:01 and Thomas Johnson boys; Linganore girls 44; Liz Lowrie, Urbana 19:01. at Cumberland 10/17/98
MVAL - Randy Buzzell (18:46) edged Kari McCarty by one second (left) to lead Middletown's girls to a 32-81 victory over North Hagerstown.  North's boys returned the favor, 44-48.  Doug Allen, Walkersville, was the individual boys winner.  Middletown got a 1-4-5-7 finish, with Laura Pumphrey, Kathy Harrigan, and Molly Imming joining the top group under 20:00.  Hagerstown MD 10/17/98
Glenelg 4-way - Kate Frande (19:18 3.05mi) and Mt. Hebron girls 26; Jon Goldsmith 16:41; Wilde Lake boys 42. Glenelg MD 10/14/98
MSJ-Curley - Mount St. Joseph beats Curley with 5 of top 6 to stay unbeaten in MIAA. 10/13/98
Meade Autumn Classic- Private schools dominated with Loyola (26) and Chris Knott (18:03) winning and Mount St. Joseph (56) second.  Jessup MD 10/10/98
Lancer Invitational - Middletown's sophomore dominated girls beat perennial Maryland 4A champion Dulaney 75-80 in a 5-team blanket finish. Westminster's boys continued undefeated for the season behind the 1-2 finish of Jason Santucci (16:16) and Josh Davis (16:17). Colleen Lawson, North Carroll (19:32) was an easy winner in the girls race.

Long Reach 3-way - Hammond sweeps Long Reach, Atholton. Columbia 10/8/98
Montgomery College Knight Inv. - Walter Johnson girls took 5 of the top 11 places for the team title, but Michelle Rafeedi, Seneca Valley (20:34) finished first.  Jarrett Van Tine, Bethesda Chevy Chase(17:06) was first in the boys race, while Churchill edged Damascus 85-89 for the team victory.  Rockville 10/7/98
Arundel County Invitational - Todd Warner, Arundel (16.31) and Katie Sloan, Glen Burnie (19.38) were the fastest individuals of the day.  Team winners were: Boys - A1, Calvert Hall 59; A2, Broadneck 44. Girls - A1, Severna Park 40; A2, Catonsville 37.   Annapolis 10/3/98
Mervo Mustang Invitational - C. Milton Wright swept both boys and girls team titles with 31 points each.    Dulaney was second in each with 41 points in the girls and 46 points in boys.   Heather McHugh led the CMW girls with a meet and course record 19:58.  CMW boys took 5 of the top 9 positions to offset Dulaney's 1-2 finish by Greg Dulaney (17:21) and Andy Gell (17:30). 16th Frostburg Invitational - FSU men 31 with jr Mike Taye first (24:53.7, 8k), Hagerstown CC 71; Baldwin-Wallace women 32, WV Wesleyan 41 with sr Sara Walker first (18:53.5, 5030m); Sherando HS girls 82 with sr Robyn Ritter first (19:21.4, MR), Urbana 87; Handley HS boys 61 with freshman Bobby Lockhart first (15:51.9, MR). MSJ 28, Loyola 29 - Mount St. Joseph's stayed undefeated in MIAA by the narrowest of margins as 6th runner Justin Duncan outsprinted Loyola's fifth in the last 100 yards; Chris Knott of Loyola 16:19 was the first individual. At MSJ 9/29/98
Brunswick Invitational - North Hagerstown boys 34; Jon Goldsmith, Glenelg 17:19; Kari McCarty NHG 19:53 -  at Brunswick MD 9/26/98
Hereford Bull Run 84 teams from 6 states - Undefeated Westminster rolled to another major meet victory in the seeded boys behind the 1-2 finish of Jason Santucci (16:45) and Josh Davis (16:46)  Gaithersburg (75) was the runner-up, and Shawn Day of Thomas Johnson (16:57) was the other trophy winner.  Dulaney (79) topped North Penn PA (85) to win the seeded girls, while Oxford PA's Josianne Lauber was the first individual in 19:49.   Trinity PA (114), Middletown MD (120), and C. Milton Wright (124) were the next teams.  Other individual trophy winners were Heather McHugh CMW (20:27) and Randy Buzzell MID (20:36). Large School Div: South Carroll boys, Severna Park girls, Bobby Mead 16:59, Colleen Lawson 20:51.  Small Schools: Middletown boys, Urbana girls, Zach Bittinger, Westmar, 17:18, Neha Amin, Centennial, 21:03. Southern Garrett 3-way - Host Runnin'  Rams sweep Westmar, University.  Oakland MD 9/22/98
Mount Saint Joseph 20 - Calvert Hall 35 - Greg Zmijewski's 16:48 leads host school. 9/22/98
Montgomery County 9/16 - Springbrook, Gaithersburg sweep; two newest schools in Maryland--Blake and Northwest--start running..  Montgomery County MD 9/16/98
Keyser Inv. - Middletown girls trounced a 17-team field with 31 points, grabbing five of the top 10 places.  Kari McCarty (18:56) of North Hagerstown handily won this chapter of a 2-year rivalry   with Middletown's Randy Buzzell (19:22).  North Hagerstown boys shaded Middletown, 57-64, reversing a loss at home 10 days ago.   The winners were led by Chris Pereschuk (16:12), who finished 12 seconds ahead of Ryan Moore of Middletown.  Boonsboro MD 9/19/98
Barnhart Inv. - Dulaney girls 32, Catonsville 38; Towson boys 52, Dulaney 53; Chrissy Dachille 19:55; Greg Vincent 16:30. Timonium MD 9/19
Knights Invitational - Loyola 56 and Chris Knott 15:45 win at Baybrook Park 9/19.
Howard County Striders Invitational - Walter Johnson's girls laid a claim to number one in Maryland with a powerful team victory, and the River Hill boys edged South Carroll, 55-60.  Walter Johnson scored 40 points, with six runners home before anyone else had 4.  Mt. Hebron was second with 82 points and River Hill a distant third (148).  Lee McDuff of River Hill (19:10) and Tom Glynn of Walter Johnson (16:09) were unchallenged in the individual races. Westminster Inv. - Westminster boys edge South Carroll, 39-45; Jason Santucci (17:04) beats Greg Vincent (17:09), Josh Davis (17:10), Bobby Mead (17:12); Dulaney (51) and Kerrie Haacke (20:24) win girls race. Westminster 9/16
Southern Garrett 5-way - SG boys 24, Preston 47, Casey McBee SG 17:27; Grafton girls 33, SG 35, Heather McDaniel Gr 21:38. Oakland MD 9/15/98
Mount St. Joseph's rolls 15 against Gilman - Sophomore Cordis Stanfield (17:59) leads host Mount St. Joseph to perfect 15 point win over Gilman. 9/15
Einstein-Paint Branch - Paint Branch sweeps dual meet; Cory Atwell wins girls (23:25), Robbi Shresta boys (19:11) Kensington 9/16
Spiked Shoe Inv., Baltimore MD 9/12 - Gaithersburg boys, Richard Montgomery girls; Thad Minshall 17:05; Lee McDuff 20:05.
Mount St. Mary's Inv., Emmitsburg MD 9/12 - Westminster MD sweeps 500-athlete meet at Emmitsburg MD, with Jason Santucci winning in 17:11; Faith Homan of Milton Hershey PA and Cassy Crouse of Linganore pace girls in 21:00 near dead heat.
Stoner Inv., Smithsburg MD 9/12 - North Hagerstown sweeps large schools at Smithsburg MD; Brunswick girls; Greencastle PA boys; Kari McCarty NHG 21:00; Michelle Mentzer, Greencastle PA, 21:49.3; Alex McAbee NHG 17:25.1; Andrew Diffendorfer and Rich Politka, Greencastle PA, 17:11.7 and 17:14.1. 
9/5/98 Interstate Classic - Clear Spring MD - Twenty schools and 500 athletes from four states kick off cross country season in Maryland.  Middletown, River Hill, Urbana, and Clarke County VA win team titles.  Chapter 2 of McDuff-Buzzell duel opens.
