Footlocker Regional Preview

Northeast Region

The race between the top 3 will be awesome. This winner of this race will be instantly named as the favorite to win the Footlocker Final.  Powell beat Sanchez by 1 second last week, but the race was tactical and in an all out race Sanchez could still win. Lucchini could also win. Rarely does he get a chance to go up against top competition, but when he does he always runs his best races. Such as 3rd in this race last year and 11th in the Final. Also at the NSO he placed in the top 5 in the 2 mile. This will be a race to remember. Welsh is the best of the rest.

If Parlapian runs, he will be a factor. Colangelo is coming on strong, is undefeated and has a devastating kick. I have seen him run in person many times but it is anyone’s guess where he finishes in the race. Preseason favorite Murad Campbell has been knocked out of the running due to shin splints.

South Region

Undefeated runners Christian, Wilkins and Joseph are about to sort out who from the South can and cannot challenge in the Final. Joseph has an awesome kick, but will he be close enough to use it? Arias was the shocking winner of the Texas state meet. Can he follow through here? Magnum faces big time competition for the first time this season. Bonn, Fawcett and Acosta all have fans who have been screaming that all year that I am shortchanging them and the fans may be right. It will be settled Sat afternoon!

Midwest Region

Turner proved last Spring in the NSO mile by his second place finish that he can run with anyone on the track. We will find out now if he can do the same in XC or if he is a year away. Torres is still the favorite to not only win this race but the Final also in the eyes of the majority of XC fans. This will be the toughest region to qualify out of. Some of the best runners in the country will be left behind after this race if they are even just a little off top form. Sage will not be allowed to run which is a shame. Jorge’s brother is a very consistent top runner. Jason Hartmann has been running times in the Kennedy and Williams range is a darkhorse capable of winning not only this race but the final also.

Banned-runs in a state in which our statist caretakers have determined it is bad and dangerous to leave the state.  I am including them anyways because they deserve to be here even if they are not allowed to run in the Footlocker Final. Note that seniors from PA probably will run the Footlocker since they will be banned but since their HS XC career is over the ban is meaningless. Hopefully the fools won’t go after their track eligibility.
