Millrose Games Trials for NJ Suburban Teams

Netters:
Trenton's boys and Willingboro's girls led the qualifying rounds
for the New Jersey berths in the Suburban High School 1600-meter relays in
the 1998 Millrose Games. held today (Jan. 6) at the Seton hall University
fieldhouse in South Orange.
Trenton came within a tenth of a second of the record for the boys'
trials as it finished seven yards ahead of Lenape in 3:23.2. Plainfield had
set the record of 3:23.1 on an outdoor 220-yard track in Rutherford in
1981. Lenape finished in 3:24.1.
In the girls' trials, it was the fourth year in a row that
Willingboro and Columbia qualified. Willingboro finished some 25 yards
ahead in 3:59.1, while Columbia ran 4:03.9.
Jahmeer Reynolds anchored the Trenton win in 48.5, while Rob Gary
ran 48.6 for Lenmape. Ali Cooper gave Lenape the lead on the opening leg at
51.3, running against Jeff Andrews, but Dallas Lacy took it back on the
second leg with a 51.0 carry against Lenape cross-country star Brad
Bisinger. The lead was lenthened slightly on the next leg with Marqueth
Tard running 51.2 for Trenton and Mohamed Kanu 51.3 for Lenape.
Latasha Taylor put Willingboro 15 yardsd ahead as she ran a 1:00.1
opening leg in the girls' race. Takia Canty ran 1:00.3 on the scond led,
Kendra Brown 59.9 on the third leg and Shakirah Rutherford anchored in
59.0. Columbia ran with Bridgett Ingram, Amina Zohny, Dara Crocker and
Natalie Deffenbaugh.
Metuchen, which had led the boys' trials last year, was third this
time in 3:26.6 with an almost entirely new lineup. Wilson of Camden was
next at 3:26.8. Middletown South, third in the girls' trials in 1997, was
third again this time in 4:04.6.

BOYS: Camden 3:27.4; Newark Arts and Plainfield 3:27.6; St.
Benedict's 3:28.9; Pleasantville 3:29.5; Pennsauken 3:31.6; Columbia
3:33.0.
GIRLS: Lakewood 4:08.8; Washington Twp 4:08.9; Roxbury 4:11.5;
Plainfield 4:12.2.
