Two dynasties in NJ girls HS track and field wrote their final chapters this weekend as Columbia won its 5th consecutive Gr. IV title and Notre Dame its 6th consecutive Parochial A crown.
Both victories were walkovers with Montclair failing to even contest the Gr. IV crown as Aleah Williams dropped out after the 100M trials and the 1600MR team, which set a state record at Penn this year, failed to even compete. red Bank catholic gave it a good try in Parochial A, but fell 30 points short, 124-94.

Neither school will be exactly poverty-stricken next season, but both are losing a lot by graduation, so will be more vulnerablke than they have been for some time.
The other team winners on the weekend were Middletown South, 64-42, over Willingboro in Gr. III, Bridgeton, 64-35, over Pleasantville in gr. II (the weight crew alone scored enough points, 42, towin the meet), Haddonfield in gr. I (led by a distance triple from frosh Erin Donohue) and St. Rose in the only really tight race in Parochial B.
Williams' defection left Montclair without an answer to the 46 points Coilumbia piled up in the distances, six more than the Mounties all told. Dara Crocker and Natalie Deffenbaugh again went 1-2 in the 800 and both scored in two other events.
Cate Guiney doubled the distances and Rachel Sernitsky the 100 and 100H for Middletown South with Sernitsky adding four points in the 200 for a total of 44. Jain Ja Williams and Kathleen McCabe each won two for Notre Dame and were on a 2nd-place 1600R team. Kristen Gullestad had a first in the 400H and a 2nd in the 800for st. Rose, plus the anchor of a winning relay.
With the Montclair prom on Friday night, just to further complicate matters, the Barber twins presented only modest performances. Melisa won the 100 on Friday in 11.88 and Mikele took the 200 and 400 on Saturday in 23.94 and 54.87. Nadia Davy of Bridgeton beat the 400 time with a MR 54.04 in Gr. II.
We'll look now at each event with an eye to the AG meet on Wednesday.

100M
With Williams out of the picture, Barber's competition will come from the tight Gr. II race where soph Amandi Rhett of Moorestown edged a tied Aisha Morgan of Schalick and Carlene Cummings of Englewood in 11.93, breaking a MR set 18 years before by Kathy Rankins of Haddon heights. The next fastest winner was Jain Ja Williams in Par A at 12.16.
IV-1-Melissa Barber 11.88. 2-Kylene Bines, Highland 12.17. 3-Shonda Burroughs, Vineland 12.25. 4-Laia Mortimore, Atlantic City 12.30.

The Barbers ran 1-2 in Gr. IV at 23.94 and 24.69. Melissa was not felling up to snuff after the prom and that was one reason why the 1600R had to be scratched. The 1-2 finishers in gr. II, Davy and Morgan, both

beat her time, but don't count on that Wednesday. The 1-2 finishers in Parochial A, Williams and frosh Courtney Cubicciotti of Immaculate Heart Academy, were also under 25.0.
IV-1-Mikele Barber 23.94. 2-Melisa Barber 24.69. 3-Mortimore 24.89.
III-1-Shakirah Rutherford, Willingboro 25.3. II-1-Davy 24.53. 2-Morgan 24.59. 3-Sikira Backus, Princeton 25.02. 4-Harris 25.03. I-1-Yaruby Brenes, Kinnelon 25.78. PA-1-Williams 24.71. 2-Cubicciotti 24.79. Par B-1-Deniha Scott, St. Mary's Jesey City 25.38.

400
This is one of the hottest distances in the state this year. Mikele Barber's 54.87 was beaten by the 1-2 finishers in Gr. II, as noted, Davy at 54.04 and Katrina Sye of Buena at 54.51. (Sye is unable to run the 400H this spring because of a knee problem; obviously, if well, she will shatter the state record for the event next year). Other fast winners were Mia Campo of St. Mary's in Parochial B, Megan Winchell of Red Bank Catholic in Parochial A and Kendra Brown of Willingboro in III.
IV-1-Mikele Barber 54.87. 2-Nicole Griffin, Highland 56.95.

800
The big loss here came in IV where Tara DeBrielle of Overbrook failed to make the top six (she was 3rd in last year's AG race). The event was as usual headed by Crocker and Deffenbaugh who ran 2:14.16 and 2:14.27 in the 1-2 IV finish. All the winners were under 2:20, but the 3rd fastest on the day was Claudine Evangelista of Triton at 2:25.82 behind the Columbia girls. Lauren McHale of Ocean City won III in 2:16.60 and Meghan Cunniff Parochial A with a big kick in 2:16.9.8.
IV-1-Crocker 2:14.16. 2-Deffenbaugh 2:14.27. 3-Evangelista 2:15.82.

Erin Donohue took cxharge here with a 4:59.76 win in Gr. I. Next best was Guiney with a 5:04.42 over Kristen haughey of North Hunterdon in III. Also under 5:10 was Lindsey Gallo of Howell, the IV winner, and Cheryl Bauer, the II champ.

Donohue's coach told her to "take it easy" in FRiday's heat, but she ran the first lap around 70 seconds and the first four in 5:20. She slowed after that and her 11:08.81 was later topped by cate Guiney's 11:02.58 in III. Gallo won IV in 11:11.38 and Bauer was also under 11:20 in II.
IV-1-Gallo 11:11.38. 2-K.C. Meehan, brick 11:21.30. 3-Amina Zohny,

100H
Everyone went home thinking the top mark was the 14.07 by Sherese Price of Pleasantville, beating Carlene Cummings in II. But there had been a mistaken reading in the Gr. IV race and, when it was corrected, Lakeema Lewis emerged as the top hand with a 14.01. The race is probably among these three.
IV-1-Lewis 14.01. 2-Bridgette Ingram, Columbia 14.48.
III-1-Sernitsky 14.56. II-1-Price 14.07. 2-Cummings 14.56. I-1-Jessica Akey, Metuchen 15,25, Par A-1-McCabe 14.82. Par B-1-Monique Shylongteh, McCorristin 15,08,

400H
As noted, Katrina Sye, probably our best, had to miss this one. So the door was opened for the Gr. IV runners, who have been playing tag all season. It was a close one with Danielle Hobson just holding off Deffenbaugh in 1:01.24 and third-place Medea Ashton of Washington Twp also under 1:02. Vernick Smith of Wison took III, but almost two seconds slower than her sectional-leading time. Frances Bundy of Pleasantville won a close II race from Mahasin Pegeise of Rutherford in 1:03.32.
IV-1-Hobson 1:01.24. 2-Deffenbaugh 1:01.29. 3-Ashton 1:01.44.

This event has really exploded this spring. Three girls topped 5-8 or better this weekend with indoor AG champ Cheryl Burdick of Ramsey the best at 5-10. Jen Barcellona of Msgr. Even without Montclair, this should be a sizzler at the AG meet. It wa sset up as Washington Twp won Gr. IV in 3:54.96 and Willingboro took Gr.
III in 3:58.72. Both ran one girl down and tired so look for a sub-3:50 when they get together Wednesday. Another dozen may break 4:00.
