The man child Kevin Bookout cruised effortlessly through his second straight year as undisputed US#1 in shot put. His 70-1 in April was the only 70-foot throw this year, and at AOC Raleigh he had the four best throws of the entire competition. Now 6-7 Bookout goes to college at U-Oklahoma, where he will be a power forward on the Sooner basketball team in addition to throwing. Despite his 95 mph fastball and 65 home runs, baseball passed on Bookout in the spring draft, apparently because he had already signed the Oklahoma letter of intent.
