2006 Harrier Super 25
National Cross Country Team Rankings by Marc Bloom

Update 2 - Oct 11 Boys - Girls

Ferris Spokane WA is 3rd boys #1
- Hilton NY girls retain top spot.

by John Dye

Former US#2 Ferris Spokane WA beat former #1 Royal Simi Valley CA at the Stanford Invitational to trade places in the boys rankings in Marc Bloom's second in-season update, based on results through October 7.

The new boys rankings also contain big moves into 3rd and 4th by York Elmhurst IL (formerly 7th) and Great American champion Collegiate NY (formerly 11th). El Toro CA in 15th was the first of nine new teams in the top 25.

The girls list was a sea of calm by comparison with the same four teams at the top -- defending NTN champion Hilton NY, Corona del Mar CA, Yankton SD, and Roosevelt Sioux Falls SD. Behind them were several upward mobile squads -- 5. Radnor PA (up from 16th), 8. Iowa City IA (up from 22), 9. West Valley Fairbanks AK (previously unranked), 10. Saugus CA (up from 24), and Great American champ 12. Episcopal Jacksonville FL (up from 20). West Valley was one of only four newly ranked teams.

Comparing the Super 25 to NTN regional rankings, there are five teams in the national top 25 from the NTN Midwest boys, Northwest boys, Midwest girls, and Northeast girls. However some other regions have their #3 team ahead of the #3 teams from the five-deep regions. The top two teams in each NTN region get automatic bids to the meet in Portland December 2, and there are four at large slots for which regional #3 and #4 teams compete.

The Super 25 is produced by Marc Bloom, now in his 31st year publishing The Harrier . Prior column shows 2006 Update 1 . NTN Reg and NTN Rank show the teams' regions for Nike Team Nationals and their NTN regional rankings.
