  1. New Rule: All qualifying marks must be attained between January 1, 2005 and June 26, 2006.
  2. Qualifying marks must be achieved during an official competition organized in conformity with IAAF Rules.
  3. Qualifying marks must be achieved during competitions organized or sanctioned by the IAAF, its Area Associations, or its National Member Federations. Thus, results achieved at school competitions must be certified by the National Federation of the country in which the competition was organized.
  4. Marks achieved in mixed events (between male and female participants), held completely in the stadium, will not be accepted (see IAAF Rules).
  5. Wind-assisted marks (over 2 m/sec. or over 4 m/sec. for combined events) will not be accepted (see IAAF Rules).
  6. Indoor marks will be accepted.
  7. Only athletes born in 1987, 1988, 1989, and 1990 can be entered.
  8. The maximum number of individual events in which athletes born in 1989 and 1990 (youth) can compete is two, and only one of these two events can be a race longer than 200m.
  9. Qualifying manual times, for eligible events, are always the F.A.T. qualifying time minus the last zero for events 800m and longer, the F.A.T time minus 0.14 for events of 400m, and the F.A.T time minus 0.24 for events 200m and shorter.

Entry Info

The two highest placing finishers in each final at the 2006 Finish Line USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships may select themselves to represent the USA National Team, provided that they have met the following criteria:

  1. Meet the qualifying standard set by the IAAF for the 2006 World Junior Championships. Please note: In order to be eligible to compete, NO wind aided marks will be accepted, and all qualifying standards must be met by Monday, June 26, 2006.
  2. Be eligible to represent the USA in international competition based on the 2006 Bylaws and Competition Rules of USATF and the IAAF.
  3. Be under the age of 20, but at least 16 years of age on December 31, 2006 (born in 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990).
  4. Have a current passport good for at least 6 months after return from China and a visa for entrance into China in order to be eligible for travel to the IAAF World Junior Championships. The USATF National Office staff will apply and pay for the visa needed for entrance into China, however, the athlete must have a current passport in order to receive a visa. USATF National Office staff and the team staff can provide information to assist the athlete in obtaining a passport by providing the necessary paperwork and instructions to the athlete, and by providing any information that will assist the athlete in obtaining a passport as quickly as possible. Athletes should have passports with them when they enter the team sign-up area at the 2006 Finish Line USA Junior Outdoor T&F Championships. Those athletes not bringing a current passport to the USA Junior Championships that is valid for at least 6 months after return from China may find it difficult to acquire a passport and visa in time to travel with the team.

USATF will NOT assist the athlete by:

    • Paying passport fees
    • Paying passport expedition fees
    • Traveling to a passport office to assist an athlete with obtaining a passport
    • Paying for passport photographs
    • Paying for an athlete's transportation to a passport office

USATF WILL assist the athlete by paying for the athlete's visa, provided that a current passport meeting the 6 months requirement is presented in a timely manner; however, it will not pay for expedition fees, travel to a consulate to acquire a visa, visa photos or other expenses caused by the athlete's delay in presenting their passport.

Passport Information

There are new passport rules dealing with minors, which makes processing more difficult. For more information on acquiring a passport, please visit http://travel.state.gov or your local post office.

Due to heightened security, passport rules have changed. If your passport expires any time during 2006, you may not use it for entrance into China.

Note: To compete at the 2006 Finish Line USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships, athletes must be at least 14 years old on the day of competition but not turn 20 years old during 2006. The meet will serve as the selection meet for the 2006 IAAF World Junior Championships in Athletics to be held August 15-20 in Beijing, China, with the top two from each event qualifying. HOWEVER, athletes must be under the age of 20, but at least 16 years of age on December 31, 2006 (born in 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990), to compete in Beijing.
