Eric Flores SD 65-2.75

As expected, Eric Flores (Custer, SD, High School), won this event.  What wasn’t anticipated was his resounding margin of victory. 
Flores went 65-2.75 in the third round, a personal best and the No. 1 high school indoor mark this season.  The breakthrough turned the event into a competition for second place. 

Jimmie Pacifico (Vandalia, OH) took the runnerup spot with a best of 61-5, almost four feet off Flores’s winning throw.  Third place went to Trey Jordan (Troy, TX) with a 60-9.25 effort. 

            “I had to keep on going after that big throw,” said the 5-10, 230-pound Flores.  “I knew I was up against good competition here.” 
            A native of Oxnard, Calif., Flores moved to South Dakota with his family when he was 11.  He took up the shot put as an eighth grader.  He’s undecided about college, but wants to major in business and continue with track and field.  Flores also does the discus and the hammer.  He was second in the weight throw here Saturday.   “My goal is to go 70 feet in the shot,” he said.
