Walter Johnson MD sr Andrew Jesien, bound for Virginia next year, shot past Sandy Roberts NC with a big kick in the last 200 meters and won in 4:10.80, fastest in the country this year. Baylor TN sr Oliver Townsend 4:11.91 US#2 went with Jesien to grab second while Roberts finished third in 4:14.18. Brian Scotland NJ, favored after Shenendehowa NY jr Dan McManamon opted to scratch and save himself for Saturday's 4x800 final, faded after leading the first two laps.
