NTN Midwest Rankings - Pre-Season

The NTN regional rankings are the basis of the NTN team selection process. The top two teams in each region at the end of the season will be invited to compete in the Nike Team Nationals in Portland Dec. 4. The third and fourth place teams in each region are considered for the four national at-large selections.

York may have its best team ever, with a series of alarming correspondent reports indicating elevated training fervor this summer. Columbus North lost a few big guns, but has managed to fill key gaps quickly. Among the more exciting regions to handicap, as several teams appear right in the mix for the second automatic berth. Clarkston was already loaded based on its wealth of non-seniors from a year ago, but has since added transfer Jenny Morgan, a state champion from Ohio. Bowling Green projects to have all cylinders back from last year’s revved-up machine, affording it the slight preseason nod over Illinois powers Naperville North and Palatine.

NTN will select two teams from each region, plus four at large teams to compete in the cross country team championships. The Harrier magazine has published regional rankings for years for the four Foot Locker regions. We reviewed data for 2003 and selected the top 10 teams in each of the eight new NTN regions.
