  • Kelli White tests positive for the stimulant modafinil, a prescription drug she takes for narcolepsy, and is under IAAF investigation that could cost her the 100 meter gold. Modafinil is not literally on the banned substance list but is considered a "related substance," the IAAF said.
  • W 4x100 final - Without White, USA 41.83 (Angela Williams, Chryste Gaines, Inger Miller, and Torri Edwards) loses to France 41.78.
  • M 4x100 round 1 - USA 38.28 is fastest of the round (John Capel, Bernard Williams, Darvis Patton, J.J. Johnson)
  • M 4x100 semi - USA 37.99 is faster qualifier for the finals. (John Capel, Bernard Williams, Darvis Pastton, J.J. Johnson). Great Britain 38.26 wins other semi.
  • W 4x400 prelim - USA 3:24.57 is fastest of the round (Me'Lisa Barber, DeeDee Trotter, Sanya Richards, Jearl Miles Clark)
  • M 4x400 prelim - USA 3:00.98 is fastest qualifier for the finals (Calvin Harrison, Mitch Potter, Adam Steele, Derrick Brew). Jamaica 3:01.37 and France 3:01.79 win other heats.
