Extreme cross country
My name is Chris Jacobson, I run for the University of Portland.
I wanted to nominate a cross country course for the toughest in
the country. I had two opportunities to run the Trask Mountain Invite.
The course is truly extreme cross country at its finest. It includes
crossing two shin-deep streams, an 800 meter uphill rightly named
"the assault." It has uncontrollable downhills where the
only successful way is to baseball slide down in the mud. There
are two mudpits that cannot be avoided. I poorly timed one of them
and went in to my neck in muddy water.
Like I said, if this course counts, it is the hardest course ever.
To make sure of its difficulty, the coordinators pour water on in
so that it is nice and muddy. The fastest time ever run on the course
is 18:37, and to my knowledge it is a full 5k but I am not positive.
It is put on by Vic Downs of McMinnville at the Flying "M"
ranch.
