I would like to nominate the Canyon De Chelly Invitational
in Chinle, Arizona, as one of the toughest courses in the country.
It sits at 6500 feet above sea level, it has a 200 meter "back
breaking" hill at 85 degrees (named GOAT HILL), and it also
has at least ½ mile of ankle deep canyon sand that's nearly
impossible to run in. In addition, the varsity race doesn't take
place until noon, which means they race in 100 degree heat, or more.
The boys fastest time was posted by John Scott of Page, AZ , with
a time of 17:51. Second place went to Gallup, New Mexico's CR Davis
with 17:53 showing, compared to what he ran as the Footlocker West
Regionals of 16:10, good enough for 19th place. I also heard that
Mt. SAC (site of the West regional) is a very tough course.
The fastest time for a female belongs to all-american and Foot
Locker Finalist Felicia Guliford with 21:14. Now compare that to
her Mt SAC time at the West Regionals where she posted a 17:57.
Trust me, this course is very tough. Please look into it!
