Girls

This year's northwest girls hunt for dominace should be one of the best in years. Two teams from Washington, US#10 NW#1 Bellarmine Prep and US#17 NW#3 Snohomish, fresh off great track seasons and a 1-2 finish at last year's state 4A Championships will hope to battle with powerhouses US#13 NW#2 Jesuit, OR and the always tough US#18 NW#4 Flathead, led by 2002 Foot Locker National Champion Sr Zoe Nelson.

All four squads are the dominant teams in their region and in their respective states, each picking up new talent in 2004. Bellarmine's 1-2 punch of Sr Brie Felnagle, the 2003 State XC Champ and 2004 spring track 1600m (4:47) and 800m (2:10) Champ, and Nicole Cochran, a Junior Olympic Champion in her own right (1500m/4:33, 3000m/9:53 national 13-14 age group record over 2004 Foot Locker National #2 So Marie Lawrence Reno NV), is the fastest 1-2 punch on the west coast!

Jesuit's girls pick up a couple new recruits from their hallways and local transfer Bailey Shutte, a sub-19:00's 5k XC type formerly of Sherwood OR. Jesuit and Snohomish are instinctively known for 'packing up' throughout the season, ultimately winning with their depth and pack-woman-ship, or ability to place five runners less than 30-seconds apart.

US#10 NW#1 Bellarmine Prep University Place WA

Matt Ellis lady lions had a great weekend, winning their home 2mile invitational (Bellarmine Invite) by convincing margin versus above-average competition, also scoring an even 15 for their JV girls. Returning State XC, 1600m (4:47) and 800m (2:10) Champion Sr Brie Felnagle re-establishes a new course record on newer and faster 2mi version on their home campus, running 11:11 for marked course with one big uphill and one big downhill. Junior Olympic National Intermediate (13-14 age group) 1500m (4:33) and 3000m (9:53) Champion Nicole Cochran will run with Felnagle later in season; Ellis opted to run Cochran in freshman race aside from varsity. Girls won with 46 points over Bellevue, WA with over 100. Megan Kelly, an 800m type, decided to run cross country this fall and ran #2 for lady lions in her debut.
