IOWA

Cedar Rapids Invitational @ Noelridge Park, Cedar Rapids 9/8/05 Now with Extended Results

In another renewal of their storied rivalry, HL#8 Iowa City High scored 62 points to edge HL#3/US#16 Iowa City West (71) and win the girls title at the Cedar Rapids Invitational. The two schools have been first and/or second every year since 1997 at the Iowa State meet, with Iowa City West having won all the meetings last year. Xavier, Cedar Rapids (109) and Ames (161) fourth in the nineteen team field.

Kelsey Bulat (Pleasant Valley) ran 15:03 over 4k to win the individual title. Bulat led in a tight pack with Brittany Dlhy (Iowa City 15:04), Sarah Wickman (Iowa City West 15:05), Meaghan Nelson (Xavier, Ceder Rapids 15:05) and Sam Sidwell (Iowa City 15:08) rounding out the top five in the proverbial blanket finish.

Pleasant Valley won the boys title with 73 points, with Wahlert, Dubuque second with 89 and HL#10 Kennedy, Cedar Rapids third with 92. Kennedy's Ryan Williamson moved away from co-leader Mike Shoemaker (Iowa City) to win in 16:28 for 5k, Shoemaker second at 16:32. Jordan Lang led Pleasant Valley in third at 16:38, with Devin Allbaugh (Pleasant Valley 16:48) and Brian Koch (Wahlert 16;48) completing the top five.

Hoover Invitational @ Des Moines 9/6/05

Roosevelt, Des Moines scored 1-3-4-5-6 finish to win the boy's team title with 19 points at the Hoover Invitational. Anthony Okee ran 15:57 for 5k to lead Roosevelt. Roosevelt also had the individual girls winner, as Hannah Roeder ran 15:23 for 4k. Dowling, West Des Moines won the girls team title, but no team score was reported.


KANSAS

Olathe North Invitational @ Prairie Center Park, Olathe 9/7/05

Brutal temperatures and humidity couldn't stop Amanda Miller Wednesday, as the Olathe East junior won a battle of returning All-Staters at the Olathe North Invitational. Miller pulled away from Rebecca Stowe (Olathe Northwest, last year's 6A state runner-up) up a hill with about a thousand yards remaining on a deceptively rugged course. Miller finished in 12:39, with Stowe second at 12:54, and Haley Beggs (Shawnee Mission South) third at 12:54. Miller led an Olathe East charge that saw the Hawks put five runners in the top ten to win with 30 points. Olathe South was second with 63 and Shawnee Mission South third with 88.

Olathe South's Mike Partridge won the boy's individual title with a 17:20 5k, outdueling Olathe North's Korey Carter, with Olathe East's Josh Meler third (17:42). Shawnee Mission South packed well to win the boy's team title with 42 points, with Olathe East second (50) and Olathe South third (75).

Monticello Invitational 9/8/05

Dan Greeno (St. Michael-Albertville) ran 16:14 (5k) to win, and Cathedral, St. Cloud scored 73 to edge Monticello (87) for the team title. On the girls side Beth Tacl (Cathedral, St. Cloud) ripped a 14:33 4k to win, with Marshall (63) winning a narrow victory over Becker 66, and Sartell (66).

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Invitational @ Prairie View Community Golf Course, Brooten 9/8/05

Brianna Meyer ran 15:38 for 5k to win, and led Sauk Centre to an overwhelming win in the girls varsity race. Sauk scored 37 points to win, with Paynesville second (138) and Montevideo (140) third. Linda Kelley (Paynesville) was second at 15:58 and Amanda Duchene (Sauk Centre) third at 16:18. Justin Peters (Redwood Valley) ran 16:51 for 5k to repeat as champion with Alex Humbert (Minnewaska) second at 17:27, edging Casey Lippert (Renville County West 17:28. Redwood Valley won the boys team title with 68 points, with Montevideo second (85) and Sauk Centre third (106).
