MVC Super Meet 10/6/05 @ Cedar Rapids

HL#4 Iowa City High put all five scorers in the top twenty-six to win the MVC Super Meet in Cedar Rapids. Iowa City scored 63 points, with Cedar Rapids second with 73, Kennedy (Cedar Rapids) was third with 80, followed by HL#5 Iowa City West and Xavier Cedar Rapids (both scoring 87, with West winning on the pusher). Thirteen full teams competed. Sarah Wickman (Iowa City West) ran 14:41 for 4k to win, with Sarah Larsen (Cedar Falls) second at 14:46. Meaghan Nelson (Xavier) was third at 14:50, with Brittany Dlhy leading Iowa City in fourth 15:00. Andrea Wacker (Kennedy) was fifth at 15:03, with Claire Hall (Iowa City West 15:08), Alyssa Driscoll (Xavier 15:12), Samantha Sidwell (Iowa City 15:18), Jordan Stahlecker (Iowa City West 15:21) and Laura Nedderman (Kennedy 15:23) completing the top ten.

Cedar Falls put five scorers into the top fifteen to win the boy's team title with 47 points. Iowa City High was second with 73, with Kennedy, Cedar Rapids third with 75 and Wahlert, Dubuque fourth with 106. Ryan Williamson (16:04) and Adam Hairston (16:06) gave Kennedy a 1-2 finish, with Brain Koch (Wahlert) third at 16;08. Mike Shoemaker (Iowa City 16;13), Tyler Meyer (Wahlert 16:14) and Steve Arntson (Cedar Falls) came across the line together in 4-5-6 with Jason Mitchell (Cedar Falls 16:18), Alan Jackson (Dubuque Senior 16;20), Alex Mark (Cedar Falls 16:21) and Jason Knox (Cedar Falls 16:43) completing the top ten.


Sterling IL Invitational 10/8/05


HL#4 Iowa City's girl's crossed the Missouri River into Illinois and handily won the Sterling Invitational with 52 points. Second went to Hoffman Estates (77) with Loyola Academy, Chicago third with 178. DeKalb (195) and Pleasant Valley IA (202) rounded out the top five in the thirty team plus field. Kalli Dalton (Hoffman Estates) ran 17:40 for three miles to win and was followed across the line by team mate Aseret Dokubo (17;54). Iowa City's Brittany Dlhy was third at 18:10, with fellow Iowan Kelsy Bulat (Pleasant Valley) fourth at 18:23 and Shannon Stacey (Galesburg) fifth at 18:30.

Nequa Valley won the boy's team title with 77 points, with Schaumburg second with 94 and Loyola Acedemy (130) edging Fenwick (134) for fourth. Rock Island was fifth with 164. Pleasant Valley (7th 242) edged Iowa City (8th 286) as the top Iowa school. Luke Rygh (Oswego) ran 15:02 to win, with Dan Chenoweth (Geneseo) a close second at 15;05. Tom Robbins (Loyola Academy) was third at 15:11, with Bo Ford (Loyola Academy) fifth at 15;13 and Dorian Ulrey (Riverdale) fifth at 15;17.

Fort Dodge Invitational 10/6/05

Cassi Sokol (14:34 4k) and Stephanie Mundt (14:38) ran a very quick 1-2 to lead Urbandale to the team title at the Ft. Dodge Invitational. Casey McDermott (Newton) was third at 14:41 and Hannah Roeder (Roosevelt, Des Moines) was fourth at 14:58. Urbandale scored 59 to win, edgign Valley, West Des Moines (64). Ames was third with 88.

Roosevelt, Des Moines won the boy's team title easily with 56 points, with Indianola second with 115. Mason City took third with 128 points with Ankeny a single point back and Dowling, West Des Moines fifth a 132. Jordan Anderson (15:45) and Clayton Carpenter (16:04) continued to give Mason City 1-2 finishes, with Tyler Jordison (Ft. Dodge) third at 16:16, and Chris Wardell (Webster City 16;25) and Anthony Okee (Roosevelt 16:30) completing the top five.

Kansas

Topeka City Championships @ Stateland XC Course 10/8/05

The Seaman girl's (#1 5A) continued their dominating season by placing eight runners in the top eleven at the Topeka City meet at hilly Stateland. Aubrey Messick led Seaman, winning with a time of 12:17 over two miles. Caroline Hale (Shawnee Heights, Topeka) was second at 12:30, followed by the Seaman back of Autumn Kidwell (12:35), Mallory Browning (12:38) and Hannah Law (12:44). Seaman won with 20 points, with Washburn Rural second (75) and Topeka High third (75). Shawnee Heights (43) edged Washburn Rural (47) for the boy's title, with Seaman (61) third. Ryan Hahn (17:06) kicked past pace-setter Ryan Bilhimer (17:06), and teammate Nic Permenter (17:11) was third, giving Shawnee Heights a 1-2-3 finish.

El Dorado Invitational 10/8/05

Sklyer Delmott ran a quick 15:42 5k to lead Emporia to the boy's team title at the El Dorado Invitational. Delmott was followed across the line by Newton's Ben Histand (16;05) with O' Connell (Andover) third at 16:17, edging Sloane Kern (Great Bend 16:19) and Mauricio Morales (Emporia 16:22). Emporia put five runners in the top twenty-five to win with 56 points. Great Bend was second with 109, edging a tight group of Garden City (112), El Dorado (117) and Newton (119). In the girl's race Michaela Reynolds gave Emporia an individual title sweep with a course record 11:38 2 mile. Previous record holder Lauren Bonds (Hutchinson) was second at 11:46, with Lauren Nightengale (El Dorado) third at 11:55. El Dorado won the team title with 122 points from a tight field, with Emporia (143) edging Newton (149), Great Bend (150) and Kapaun-Mt. Carmel, Wichita (155) for second.

Iola Invitational 10/6/05

Stephanie King (Marmaton Valley) continued her strong season, winning the Iola Invitational with a time of 12:36 over two miles with Anna Yost (Girard) second at 13:03. Pittsburg won the team title with 47 points, with Ft. Scott (58) edging host Iola (60) for second. Lane Boyer of Neodesha won the the boy's race with a 16:15 over 5k. Independence won the team title with 47 points, with Neodesha (106) second and Nevada MO third with 111.


Haskell Invitational @ Haskell Indian Nations University, Lawrence 10/8/05

In an interesting match-up of schools from Kansas, Oklahoma and the Dakota's, it was hometown Alysha Valencia (Free State, Lawrence) who headlined with at blistering 14:32 4k to win the girl's division of the now-multi-state Haskell Invite. Valencia pulled away from a pack consisting of team-mate Kyra Kilwein (14:38, 2nd) and Amanda Miller (Olathe East 14:48, 3rd) to win up the final 600 yard hill to the finish. Jeanie Reams (Free State, 15:26) was fourth and Jamie Loy (Sequoyah OK 15:35) was fifth. Loy led a well packed Sequoyah team to the team title with 41 points, with Olathe East second (55) and Free State third with 66.

Mike Partridge (Olathe South) ran 16:44 for 5k to win, holding off hard-charging freshman Kiko Mendoza (Tiospaye ND), who ran 16:49 for second. MJ Hassaballa (Free State) was third at 16:55, with Bryan Vann (Sequoyah) fourth at 17:14 and Matt Horn (Olathe South) fifth at 17:15. Free State took the boy's title with 50 points, with Olathe South (62) edging Sequoyah (65) for second.


Ellsworth Invitational 10/4/05

Abiline's boy's continued to roll. The Cowboy's,. led by Tyler Fennema's first place finish in 17:04 over 5k, won with 41 points. Fennema won on a hot windy day with Andrew Falcon of Sacred Heart, Salina, second at 17:53. Second in the team race went to #7 3A Sacred Heart (83), with #5 3A Hesston (96) and #1 3A Hillsboro (98) in third and fourth.
Ellsworth won the girl's team title with 42 points, with Sacred Heart second (56) and Smoky Valley, Lindsborg third with 72. No individual girl's results were reported.


Pleasant Ridge Invitational 10/6/05 @ Easton

A rugged course greeted runners at the Pleasant Ridge Invite, as West Platte MO's Zak Layton won the boy's race with 17:41 5k. St. Pius X, Kansas City MO won with 44 points. Christ Prep Academy was second with 52 and West Platte MO third with 59. In the girl's race Jylian Jaloma (Mt. St. Scholastica, Atchison) won with a 13:03 over 2 miles, with Kim Eversgerd (Wathena) second at 13:27 and Basehor-Linwood's Megan Tush third at 13:56. Basehor-Linwood won the team title with 27 points. West Platte MO was second with 43 and Wathena third with 51.


Sabetha Invitational 10/7/05

Baldwin gave Coach Mike Spielman a nice homecoming present, as they dominated the boy's and girl's division of the Sabetha Invitational. Spielman won a number of state track titles as an athlete at Sabetha, and still proved to have the gold medal touch as a coach. Stuart Cowart won the boy's 5k in 17:12 as Baldwin put the first six runners across the line, winning with 15 points to Sabetha's 71, with Jeff Co West third with 75. Heather Garcia won the girls title with a 12:20 2 mile, as Baldwin scored 18 points to win, with Jackson Heights second with 90 and Doniphan West third with 100.


Mill Valley Invite 10/6/05

Graham Laird (Pembroke Hill, Kansas City MO) ran 16:26 over 5k to outlast Daniel Everhart (Turner, Kansas City 16:32) to win the Mill Valley Invite. Amr Abualnadi (Blue Valley 16:44), Korey Carter (Olathe North 16:47) and Nick Anning (Kansas City Christian 16:48) completed the top five. Kansas City Christian put three runners into the top ten to win with 55 points, with Blue Valley second with 86 and Olathe North third with 115.

Rebeka Stowe (Olathe Northwest) ran 12:09 to win a photo-finish with Kara Windisch (Blue Valley West, 12:09), with Blue Valley's Devin Weigers right behind at 12:10 for two miles. Ashley Wurth (Blue Valley West 12:26) and Devin Freeman (Blue Valley 12:30) rounded out the top five. Blue Valley West scored 42 to win the girl's race, with Blue Valley second with 60 and Mill Valley, Shawnee third with 80.

Minnesota

Blaine Invitational 10/6/05

Hopkins swept to the boy's and girl's Blue Division titles at the Blaine Invitational The boys scored 63 points to win Invitational, with North St. Paul second with 93 and Southwest third with 106. Nate Simons of Southwest ran 16:50 over 5k to win, with Zach McGill (16;54) and Doug DeBold (16;55) giving Hopkins a 2-3 finish. Suedi Murekezi (Coon Rapids) was a close fourth at 16:57 with Ken Gilkerson (Park Center) 16:58 right behind. The Hopkins girls scored 48 points, with White Bear Lake second with 62 and Woodbury third with 104. Emily Schwitzer led Hopkins, winning in 15:09 over 4k. Katie Moraczewski (White Bear Lake) was second at 15:21, with Angie Henry (Hopkins) third at 15:27. Lauren Bleyl (Woodbury) was fourth at 15:39 and Bethany Peirson (Irondale) fifth at 15:45.


Ed Berg Invtitational at Owatonna 10/6/05

Elliot Heat (Winona) took the Ed Berg Invitational individual boy's title, running 15:56 over 5k. Kyle Buck (Zubrota/Mazeppa/Kenyon) took second at 16:28, edging Peter Hoffman (Mayo, Rochester 16:28) and Kyle Rosseau (16:29 Rosemount). Rosemount won the boy's title with 55 points, with Winona (83) second. Faribault (136) took third over a tight pack including Marshall, Rochester (140), Mankato West (147) and Mayo, Rochester (149). Dover-Eyota/ St. Charles took the girls title with 45 points, with Owatonna second (67) and Winona (76) third. Eight-grader Laura Hughes (Mankato West) won the girls 4k at 15:01, with Jordan Krahn (Dover-Eyota) second at 15:16, just ahead of Hilary Noska (Mauo 15:18). Anna Garner (Mayo 15:25) was fourth and Nikki Peterson (Owatonna 15:32) fifth.


Anoka Rum River Invitational 10/6/05

HL#6 Apple Valley romped to the girl's team title at the Anoka Rum River Invite, scoring 30 points and putting three runners in the top five. Michelle Volz (Lakeville South) roared to the individual title, with a zippy 14:33 4k win. Jenny Rodgers (Apple Valley) was second at 15:06, with Ashley Brown (River Falls) third at 15:10. Sierra McCauley (15:12) and Jen Lang (15:13) followed in 4-5 for Apple Valley with team mate Jessica Rodgers seventh at 15:36 and Erin Schroeder 12th at 16:04. River Falls was second with 53 points, and Lakeville South third with 117.

Mike Callan led Park Cottage Grove to the boy's team title running 16:42 for 5k to win. Kevin Ragborg (Lakeville South) was second at 16:50, with Will Haffield (Minnahaha Academy) third at 16;52 and Logan Ekstrom (River Falls 16:58) and Jon Burks (Park Cottage Grove 17;00) completing the top five. Park Cottage Grove scored 70 to win, with Apple Valley (81) edging Lakeville South (84) for second and River Falls (98) fourth.

Augustine Invitational @ Des Moines 10/6/05

Lisa Collogan of Des Moines East zipped to a one minute victory at the Augustine Invitational, running 14:50 for 4k. Ashley Baldwin (Lincoln, Des Moines) was second at 15:50 and Christine Weber (North Polk) third at 15:52. Lincoln won the team title with 41 points, with Hoover, Des Moines second at 54 and North Polk third with 63. Ames crushed the boy's field, putting their top seven in places 2-8 and winning with 20 points. Lincoln, Des Moines was second with 48 and North Polk third with 77. Kevin Morgan (Lincoln) won with 16:06 5k and Andrew Feller (16:27) and Brandon Long (16:55) began the Ames parade in second and third.



Missouri

Potosi Invitational @ Potosi City Park 10/8/05

Josh Mathis dashed at 15:44 5k to lead HL#6 Potosi to an easy win at it's home intitational. Mathis was followed in second by Larry Paul (Wright City 16:11), with Adani Behnke (Lutheran South, St. Louis) third with 16:32 and John Mark Lewis (Poplar Bluff 16:45) and Daniel Forbes (Potosi 16:54) in fourth and fifth. Potosi put four runners in the top ten to score 31 points, with Perryville second with 111, and Cape Girardeau Central third with 115, edging cross-town rival Notre Dame (120). Seventeen full teams competed.

St. Genevieve won the girl's team title with 40 points, with Cape Girardeau Central second with 95 and Jackson third with 120. Jessie Bollinger led St. Genevieve, winning with a quick 18:59 for 5k. Allyssa Allison (Festus) was second at 19:39, with Brianna Frigerio (Lutheran South) third at 20:06. Katherine Fitzwater (Potosi 20:30) and Brittany Moreland (Cape Central 20:31) were fourth and fifth.


Metro Catholic Conference Championship @ Chaminade HS, St. Louis 10/8/05

HL# 9 University, St. Louis scored placed four runners in the top ten and scored 37 points to shad DeSmet, St. Louis (43) for the Metro Catholic Conference team title. Chaminade, St. Louis was third with 63 points. Dan Quigley (CBC, St. Louis) ran a quick 15:53 to edge Ben Murphy-Baum (University 15;54) for the team title. Tom Albes (DeSmet 16:18), Matt Lawder (University 16:31) and Bob Gorman (Chaminade 16:40) rounded out the top five.

Kearney Invitational 10/8/05

Zach Layton (West Platte) won his second race in three days, taking the Kearney Invite with a time of 16:58 over 5k with Ross Sawire (Excelsior Springs) second at 17:05 and Ian Talbott (Lawson) third at 17:08. Lawson won the boy's team title with 52 points, with Excelsior Springs second with 77 and Benton, St. Joseph third with 85 in the seventeeen team field. Jordan Esry (Hamilton) won the girl's race with a time of 20:01 over 5k, with Erica Whitfield (Lawson) second at 20:12 and Courtney Oxendale (Kearney) third at 20:13. Raymore-Peculiar won the girl's team title with 48 points, with Platte County second (72), edging Kearney (74) and Hamilton (81).


Border War Invitational 10/8/05 @ SIU-Edwardsville IL

University City scored 51 to edge Ladue's 55 to win the boy's title at the Border War Invitational. St. Charles West was third with 65, while HL#7 Ft. Zumwalt South appeared to rest their varsity, taking third with 85. Brian Hart of University City ran 16:31 to win, with Archi Stuk (Ladue) second at 16:49 and Andy Chase (University City) third at 17:01.

Natalie Becker led Parkway West, St. Louis to the girl's title, winning the 5k race in 19:59, with teammate's Katie Howard second (20:22) and Lisa Buzzotta third (20:25). Parkway West scored 36 points to shade Ft. Zumwalt South (46) with St. Joseph's, St. Louis third with 69.


Helias Invitational, Jefferson City 10/8/05

Jefferson City High won both the boy's and girl's team titles at the Helias Invitational. Asenath NaAmen led a Jeff City 1-2-3 finish in the girl's race, winning in 19:03 for 5k with Madeline Keene second (19:04) and Tory Even third (19:05). Jefferson City scored 17 to win, with Helias, Jefferson City second with 58 and Hickman, Columbia third with 63. Nick Heberle (15:56 5k) and Jerrod Anderson (16:18) went 1-2 for Jeff City in the boy's race with Zach Chapman (Hickman, Columbia) third at 16:27. Jeff City scored 20 to for the boy's title, with Hickman, Columbia second with 38 and Helias third with 82. Small school titles went to the Eldon boy's and Centralia girls.

Omaha Metro Conference @ Chalco Hills 10/6/05

Megan Oddo (Millard North) surprised the girl's field and won her first Metro Conference meet in 14:55 for 4k, edging Brittany Poole (Millard West 14:58) with Ali Gress (Papillion-LaVista South 15:06), Emily Romesser (Bellevue West 15:34) and Jill Ourada (Omaha North 15:43) completing the top five. HL# 7 Marian, Omaha won their fifth straight Metro title with 62 points, with Millard West (70) second and Omaha Westside (111) third.

Todd Gluizia (Millard South) ran 16:13 to win over 5k, with Matt Conahan (Millard North) second at 16:24. Mark Nelson (Papillion LaVista South) was third at 16:551, with Ter Diu (Benson, Omaha 16;55) and AJ Feldhausen (Papillion LaVista 17:00) fourth and fifth. Millard North won the boy's title with 56 points, with Papillion LaVista second with 108 and Benson, Omaha third with 111.

Michelle Fluitt (Lincoln East) moved late to win the HAC meet, running 15:25 for 4k to win and led Lincoln East to a 47-55 win over Fremont in the girl's race. Eric Noel (North Star, Lincoln) ran 16:28 over 5k to win the boy's team title, with Fremont winning their fifth straight team title despite holding out #1 runner Bryce Christensen.

West Regional @ Williston 10/8/05

HL#10 Bismark High won both the boy's and girl's Western Regional titles at Williston. Bismark's boy's scored a regional record 18 points, going 1-2-4-5-6, with Jake Martel winning in 16:39 over 5k, Andrew Reichenberger was second (16:41), with Joe Kemp (Williston) breaking up the Bismark sweep in third at 16:45. Tom Wagner (16:51), Mitch Becker (16:58) and Sage Koch (17:02) completed Bismark's pack. Dickinson was second in the team standing with 84 points, followed by Williston with 97. The Bismark girls scored 33 to win, with Dickinson (70) edging Minot for second on the pusher. Melanie Funke (Minot) dashed a 14:52 4k to win, with Paige Hageness (15:22), Taylor Pintar (15:22) and Sarah Feeney (15:24) going 2-3-4 for Bismark.

Sam Larson overcame a flapping shoelace to win the East Regional at Grand Forks, controlling the race and running a 16:40 5k to win, and lead Jamestown to the boys team title with 21 points. Fargo South was second with 119 points, edging Grand Forks Central on the pusher with Fargo North a close fourth at 120. Colin Parish of Grand Forks Central was second at 17:09. Fargo South's Laura Roessler won the girl's team title, running 4k in 15:21, with the Jamestown duo of Katie Conlon (15:27) and Madey Hornung (15:33) in second and third. Jamestown scored 26 to edge Fargo South (39) for the team title with Grand Forks Central (97) third.

Jamestown's Katie Conlon (15:09 4k) led her team to the team title at the Jamestown Invite with a first place finish. Second went to Kaitlin Thiele (Century, Bismark 15:30), with Lindsay Kautzman (Jamestown) third at 15:36. Jamestown scored 23 to win, with Century second at 47 and Mandan third with 97. Sam Larson (Jamestown) won the boy's 5k in 16:35 to lead Jamestown to 28 point total. Tom Shanandore (Mandan) was second at 17;05 and Justin Slusser (Jamestown) third at 17:17. Following Jamestown in the team race was Mandan (68) and Valley City (68) in second and third.

EDC Championships @ Huron 10/8/05 Flash report, details coming

HL#1 Yankton girls swept the field at the EDC Championships in Huron, putting in the first seven runners in an unprecedented sweep. Betsy Bies led the charge wining in 14:54 and breaking Ramsey Kavan's course record in the process. In the boy's race, HL#2 Yankton put in 6 of the top 13 runnners to win, with Jon Williams winning the individual title.

Harwarden Invitational IA- 9/7/05 Girls Results

The Sioux Falls battle's between the HL#3 Roosevelt and HL#8 O'Gorman ladies crossed into Iowa this week, with Roosevelt winning the Harwarden Invite by a 24-35 count over O'Gorman. Sioux City North AI (73) was third. Krista (14:10) and Allison (14:16) Eckert blazed to a 1-2 finish over 4k, with two other Roosevelt runners under 15:00 and a 14:37 4k average. In the boy's race, Josh Lewis of Sioux City West IA won with 15:59 5k with Roosevelt's Bill Kogel second at 16:24. Roosevelt dominated the team race, finishing with 27 points, with Heelan, Sioux City IA second with 91, edging Sioux City North IA (94).


Rapid City Quad @ Executive Golf Course 10/6/05


Stevens, Rapid City dominated both the boys (19 points) and girls (20 points) at the Rapid City quad. Marshall Kambestad won the boy's race by over a minute, running 15:47 for 5k and five Steven's runners in the top seven. Jessica Engel (Sturgis) won the girl's race, zipping 14:36 for 4k, with Taryn Sahli (Stevens) second at 15:5 and Annie Pfeifle (Stevens) third at 15:20.
