2A Girls 3200: Stephanie King (Marmaton Valley, Moran) moved away to win in 11:25.01, Aubrey Frederking (Plainville) was second at 11:32.69 and Crystal Stegman (Sacred Heart, Salina) third at 11:55.83. 

 

2A Boys 3200: Drew Busentiz (Berean Academy, Elbing) just edged Calen Lucas (Stanton County, Johnson) 10:06.19 to 10:06.62. Michael Heigert (Alma-Wabuansee) ran 10:13.18 in third.

 

2A Girls 100H: Shalee Lehning of Sublette won this race with a smooth 15.38, with Kortney Ivy (Sedgwick) second at 15.72 and Macy Migchelbrink (Atwood) third at 16.17.

 

2A Boys 110H: Teryn Grafel (Oberlin) ran 15.32 to edge Matt Beverlin (Berean Academy, Elbing 15.38) for the title, while Cameron Marsh (Oxford 15.49) to take third by inches from Josh Conway (Osborne 15.51).

 

2A Girls 4 x 800: St. Francis pulled away in the last legs to win in 9:57.64, with Osborne second at 10:01.96. Oberlin took third at 10:08.60

 

2A Boys 4 x 800: In a race with numerous lead changes, Sacred Heart, Salina pulled away to win in 8:23.56. Berean Academy, Elbing (8:27.63) and St. Francis (8:28.13) placed second and third ahead of a tight pack.

 

2A Girls 100: Jenny Paulsen (Onaga) cruised ahead of the pack to a 12.51 triumph, with Lauren Fortin (Oberlin) second at 12.65 and Anna Tweedy (Deerfield 12.72) just ahead of Ali Edwards (Meade 12.75) for third.

 

2A Boys 100: Adams Evans (Oxford) ran 11.18 for a clear victory, with John Zamora (Leoti 11.34), Jared Kingsbury (Smith Center 11.36) and Spencer Lucas (11.38) finishing under a blanket in 2-3-4.

 

2A Girls 1600: Stephanie King (Marmaton Valley, Moran) ran 5:20.50 to pull away to her second gold of the meet. Aubrey Frederking (Plainville) ran 5;23.95 to gain her second distance silver and Kim Eversgerd (Wathena) ran 5;31.35 for third.

 

2A Boys 1600: Thomas Bazemore (Immaculata, Leavenworth) kicked away from a crowded pack to win a tactical state title in 4:38.92. Chad Herrera (Deerfield) was second at 4:44.54 and Calen Lucas (Stanton County, Johnson) third at 4:44.74.

 

2A Girls 4 x 100: Plainville zipped to a near class record 49.99, while fellow northwest Kansas schools Hoxie (50.63) and Oberlin (50.93) were second and third.

 

2A Boys 4 x 100: Smith Center and Hill City are tough and traditional rivals, and rivalries don't get much closer than Smith Center's 44.24 to 44.25 victory over Hill City here. Anchor Jared Kingsbury's stretch run for Smith Center led to a photo finish that brought the crowd to their feet roaring. Oxford was third in 44.63.

 

2A Girls 400: Mary Jo Mott (St. Mary's) ran 58.99 to win, with Crystal Follis (Hoxie) close at 59.48 and Demi French (Osborne) third at 59.67.

 

2A Boys 400: Devin Nickel (Central-Burden) ran a commanding race to win by over a second in 49.54. The Smith Center duo of Jared Kingsbury (51.02) and Wesley Lambert (51.08) finished in second and third.

 

2A Girls 300H: Samantha Heter (Lincoln) ran 45.67 to hold off Shalee Lehning (Sublette 46.00) for the gold, with Megan Rice (St. Francis) third at 47.73.

 

2A Boys 300H: Teryn Grafel (Oberlin) swept the hurdles with his 40.02 triumph. Matt Raybern (St. John-Hudson) was second at 40.71 and Stephen Jowers (Canton-Galva 40.90) third.

 

2A Girls 800: Jacie Hoyt (Hoxie) ran a 2:21.92 for a solid homestretch margin, with Stephanie King (Marmaton Valley, Moran) taking second (2:23.62) after wins in the 1600 and 3200. Kristen Schrag (Moundridge) ran 2:24.51 for third.

 

2A Boys 800: Devin Nickel (Central-Burden) once again dominated his race, running 2:00.77 to win. Wes Wishaar (JeffCo North) was second at 2:02.80, with Shawn Kuhlman (Oakley 2:03.10) took the bronze by a single hundreth from Cody Freerksen (Lyndon).

 

2A Girls 200: Mary Jo Mott (St. Mary's) won her second track gold, running 26.47 to win. Bethany Rickford (Leoti) was second at 26.87, just ahead of Crystal Follis (Hoxie 26.88).

 

2A Boys 200: Spencer Lucas (Sublette) powered into the homestretch wind to take a 23.21 triumph. Jared Kingsbury (Smith Center 23.47) was second, and Josh Popelka (Bennington 23.55) edged Kale Shanke (Smith Center 23.58) for third.

 

2A Girls 4 x 400: Hoxie ran off to a 4:08.40 win, with Osborne second at 4:09.64. Sacred Heart of Salina ran 4:12.61 to edge St. Francis (4;13.11) for third.

 

2A Boys 4 x 400: Alma-Wabaunsee ran smoothly 3:28.17 to win, Hill City was second at 3:29.37 with Oakley a close third at 3:30.06.

 

2A Boys High Jump: Colgan, Pittsburg senior Greg Clawson cleared 6-4 on his first attempt to win, with Tristan Snyder (Pleasanton) second and Devon Krenzel (Leoti) third at the same height.

 

2A Girls Javelin: In a thrilling competition that saw the first two break the 2A state record, Shalee Lehning (Sublette) threw 147-5 to win on her first toss, and also had throws of 143-6 and 142-3. Lehning then had to withstand Becky Zabel (Onaga) last round launch that measured 143-8. Taci Alpers (St. John-Hudson) threw 131-9 in third.

 

2A Girls Triple Jump: Renee Swisher (Inman) jumped 36-5.75 to win a deep competition. Ali Edwards (Meade) was second at 35-11.25 and Becky Zabel (Onaga) third with the same mark. Macy Migchelbrink (Atwood) was fourth at 35-1.5 and Loree Siruta (Stanton County, Johnson) fifth at 35-0.

 

2A Boys Shot Put: Robert Rissen (Lyndon) threw 51-1.25 on his first attempt to take the 2A state title. Andy Bartz (WaKeeney) was second at 48-3.5 and Clay Kuhns (Meade) third at 47-9.25.
