Cold temps and rain postponed many meets till Monday.

These were the major meets made up Monday

Topeka Seaman Relays at Seaman HS, Topeka
The Seaman Relays are a traditional mid-season checkpoint for many of the top schools in eastern and central Kansas, and this year's meet saw the traditional step-up in marks. Postponed to Monday due to Friday's frigid weather, the team races gave an interesting preview to the state meet, about a month away.
On the boy's side, Free State-Lawrence edged Olathe North by two points 72-70, with Shawnee Mission South third with 63 and 5A state contender Highland Park-Topeka fourth with 58.
Highland Park's Jared Huske was the individual star of the meet, setting a meet record with a 300H win in 37.7, and winning the 110H in 13.8, the 200 in 22.2 and placing second in the 100 to Olathe North's Randy Shepard (10.6 to 10.7).
Other top boy's marks included Danny Schneider (Free State-Lawrence) winning a 1600/800 distance double. Schneider won the 1600 in 4:18.3 over a strong field, with the Emporia duo of Nick Garcia (4:23.7) and Shea Camien (4:26.5) running 2-3. Schneider ran 1:57.1 to win the 800 from Aric Cherry (Jefferson County West 1:57.8) and Alex Rock (Free State-Lawrence 1:58.4). Brett Imgrund (Shawnee Mission Northwest) won the 3200 in 9:34.5 with Kory Cool (Manhatttan) second at 9:36.1. Kerron Toussaint (Free State-Lawrence) won the 400 in 49.9 with Gregg Lott (Seaman-Topeka) second at 50.9.
Lawrence High's Scott Penny took the SP (54-6, with Olathe North's Brent Sensenich second at 52-6.5) and DT (160-9). Kyle Komarek (Shawnee Mission South) won the JT with a toss of 180-11, with Sunflower League rivals Mike Garrison (Shawnee Mission Northwest 175-8) and Roger Thomas (Leavenworth 174-11) 2-3.
Emporia's Matt Benton won the LJ at 22-8, and relay marks were strong with Olathe North running 42.6 to win the 4 x 100, Free State-Lawrence 3:26.5 to edge Shawnee Mission Northwest (3:26.8) in the 4 x 400 and Shawnee Mission Northwest runnin 8:03.3 to win the 4 x 800.
On the girl's side, Leavenworth romped to the team title with 133 point, more than doubling runner-up Emporia (61.5). Junction City (50) and Highland Park-Topeka (47) were 3-4.
Charity Stowers lead Leavenworth, winning the HJ at 5-4, the 400 at 57.7 with team mate Kendra Bradley second at 58.9 and running a leg on Leavenworth's 4:07.6 4 x 400 win.
Leavenworth also ran 10:13.3 to win the 4 x 800 and 49.3 to edge Junction City (49.6) in the 4 x 100.
T'Mika Holland also added to Leavenworth's total with a 14.9 100H win, edging fellow Pioneer Salena Burns (14.9). Burns then blew to an impressive 45.7 300H win, with Shawnee Mission Northwest's Kristen Erlich second at 47.2.
DeAngela McDougald (Junction City) won the 100 at 12.1 with Kendra Bradley second at 12.2. Distance running was impressive, with Layne Moore of Emporia winning the 1600 in 5:11.3 over Kristen Wolkey (Shawnee Mission North 5:12.1). Wolkey then returned to win the 800 in 2:21.1 over Alysha Valencia (Free State-Lawrence 2:21.9 with Moore third at 2:22.6). Wolkey completed an impressive day by winning the 3200 in 11:30.6.
Sasha Spann of Highland Park-Topeka returned from injury to win the LJ (17-4.5, with Jessica Simpson of Olathe North also over 17 feet at 17-1), and the TJ (36-5).

Hutchinson Invitiational @ Hutchinson HS
As the Seaman meets gathers many of the top schools from eastern and central Kansas, the Hutchinson meet is a showcase for western and southern Kansas large class schools. Hutchinson won the boys title with 110 points, with Hays second (97) and fourteen time defending 5A champ Liberal third (91). In the girls team race, Garden City continues it march to state title contender, winning with 114 points. Hutchinson was second with 102 and Hays third with 95.
Hutchinson's Jacob Fuller won the TJ by six feet at 48-1.75 and the LJ (21-11), and fellow Salt Hawk Kelly Roberts won the HJ at 6-4. Odell Harris (Wichita West) took the short sprints at 10.8/ 23.0. Kyle Younger (Hays) took the DT (168-3) and SP (49-9.25). Wichita Northwest fresman Chris Allen won the 110H in 14.3, and Garden City's Schultz (no first name listed) won the 800 at 1:58.8. Levi Cobb (Hutchinson 4:35.3) and Ben Histand (Newton 10:05.8) took the long distances.
A big league LJ competition highlighted girls action with with Lataish Brown (Garden City) winning at 18-7.75, Lexi Beaidut (Hutchinson) a close second at 18-7.25, and Chrisdale Harris (Wichita West) third at 17-6.5. Chrisdell Harris also won the 100 (12.1) and the 200 (25.6 over the 25.9 of Wichita Southeast's Allante Garrett) and ran on a 49.3 4 x 100 winner. Beaudet came back to win the 400 in 59.1.
Natalie Kolarik (Hutchinson) won the TJ at 35-11.25 and the 300H (47.6 over the 48.4 of Haley Charles of Hays). Lauren Bonds (Hutchinson) won the 800 (2:20.3) and 1600 (5:15.4) and relay wins went to Hutchinson in the 4 x 4 (4:06.1 with Garden City at 4:08.0) and Garden City the 4 x 8 (10:01.5 with Hays second at 10:09.3).

Inman Invitational at Inman HS
Garden Plain won the boys title with 133.5 points, just edging Sterling by 1/2 point. Garden Plain also won the girls title with 109 points, with Claflin second with 84.
Throws were big on the boys side with Sean Teter (Garden Plain) throwing 53-1.75 to win the shot. Wichta home-schooled freshman John Talbert was second in the shot (49-11.75), then won the disc (173-1) and TJ (161-9). Jon Hilton (Central Christian-Hutchinson) won four events (TJ 41-9, HJ 5-8, 110H 15.0, 300H 40.9).
Rachel Talbert, John's sister (classed as a senior, and also home schooled) swept the throws at 42-5 SP, 146-4 DT, and 133-0 JT. Roxanne Stiles (Claflin) won the 100 (12.8), 200 (26.6) and 400 (59.2 over Katie Robben of Garden Plain 60.3).



Friday 4/30/05
St. Thomas Aquinas Relays @ Blue Valley Northwest HS, Overland Park

Host St. Thomas Aquinas from Overland Park won the girls division with 134 points over Blue Springs MO (119) and Lee's Summit MO 107. Oak Park from Kansas City MO won the boys title with 173 points over Blue Springs MO (129) and Blue Valley Northwest (94), in a meet where cold rain eventually cleared off to leave frigid temperatures.


Laura Roxberg (Blue Valley Northwest) won the girls 1600 by a large margin in 5:13.72. Other distance races went to Cecilia Brewer (Aquinas, 2:26.66 800), Andrea Owensby (Blue Springs MO, 11:57.74 3200), and Blue Springs 10:07.82 4 x 800. Sprints went to Haley Evans (Blue Valley Northwest 12.30) and Melissa Hefta (Blue Springs MO 26.10), with Laura Smith (Blue Valley Northwest 61.21) winning the 400. Hurdle races were hazerdous in the rain, but Kaley Otto (Olathe East 15.90 100H) and Jackie Jacobs (Aquinas 48.02 300H) still turned in good times. Oak Park MO (51.17 4 x 1) and Aquinas (4:09.07 4 x 4) won the sprint relays. Field event marks here are usually very strong, but conditions put a literal damper on things. Allison Mayfield (Aquinas) won the HJ at 5-4 and Heather Woelleber (Lee's Summit MO) the vault at 10-0. Jennifer Frankin (Shawnee Mission East) won the LJ at 16-6 and Tyler Yarbrough (St. Teresa's, Kansas City MO) the TJ at 32-9 into a strong wind. State Contenders Danielle McCray (Olathe East) won the shot at 39-9.5 and Sarah Hertzog (Lee's Summit MO) the disc at 107-0, with Stephanie Solari (Kansas City Christian) the JT at 108-8.

On the boys side a sterling 800 was won by Jason Collett (Aquinas) at 1:55.82, with Olathe South's Josh Wayland right behind in the mid 1:56 range. (Only winning time's available at press). Zach Langston (Blue Valley Northwest) swept to wins in the short sprints (10.85/ 22.29). Scipio Daniels (Blue Springs MO) won the 400 at 51.79. Michael Pierce (Oak Park, Kansas City MO) won the 1600 (4:26.87) and 3200 (9:47.64). Nick Adcock added to Oak Park's total with 14.34/ 40.05 hurdle wins. Blue Valley Northwest (43.79 4 x 1), Oak Park (3:28.39 4 x 4, 8:09.99 4 x 8) won the relays races. Nick Adcock (Oak Park 6-2) won the HJ and Joe Sabina (Oak Park 12-6) the vault. Tony Bryant (Olathe South) lept a strong 22-0 to win the LJ and Brad Commes (Oak Park) 44-8.75 the TJ. Throw wins went to Josh Mathiasmeier (Aquinas 154-9), James Stigal (Blue Springs 48-9.25) and Nick Welch (Kansas City Christian 170-5 JT), all in the height of the rain storm.

Belton MO Invitational
Shawnee Mission West's Mike Miller crossed over to Missouri and won the sprints in 10.95/ 22.38. Other top marks included a 50.49 win from Jerron Forte (Center, Kansas City MO), Michael Swart (Blue Springs South MO) throwing the disc 160-7, Jason Clark (William Chrisman, Independence MO) high jumping 6-6 and Jeremy Schroeder (Winnetonka, Kansas City MO) vaulting 14-6.
Top girls mark included a 154-10 disc win from Hope Harris (Clinton MO), a 41-5.75 SP win from Krishna Lee (O' Hara, Kansas City MO) and a 2:28.47/ 5:27.38 distance double win from Megan Reynolds (St. Joseph Central MO).


Girard Invitational Friday 4/30/05
Greg Clawson (Colgan, Pittsburg) didn't let the rain and cold stop him, as he won the high jump at 6-8. The Girard girls won the team title with 96.5 points, outpacing Baldwin (88.5) and Fort Scott (84.5). Fort Scott (92) won the boys team title by four points over Baldwin (88). Twenty teams competed.
