"Bert on the Side"
Photographer Bert Richardson thought of Donna Dye's special photo features when he checked out the friendly, family vibe after the Texas 5A 3200s.
The 3200s in the 5A Texas State Meet featured three Foot Locker finalists and some friendly rivals. Westfield jr Nichole Jones recovered from a fall to outrun Southlake Carroll's Brooke Upshaw, with both hitting big sub-10:30 PRs. Colby Lowe, also of SLC, affirmed his status as one of the country's best sophs (and best, period), with his 9:05.17 3200 win. Nichole is pictured with her medal and with Upshaw.
All three were in San Diego last fall. So was SLC's Miranda Walker. She and teammate Brooke are very close friends and Arkansas signees. Unfortunately, Walker she was involved in a collision with teammate Clint Renfro (who won the boys 300 hurdles) at mid season which tore her spleen and finished her for the spring. But she is still a great teammate and can be seen below giving a congratulatory hug to Upshaw and with teammates cheering on Lowe. Lowe and Upshaw are also pictured with Southlake coach Robert Ondrasek.
