By Regional Editor, John Sullivan

The big meets this week included the 12th Annual McNeil Invite in Round Rock TX with 12 South and 4 US ranked teams and the 69th Annual Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater OK which is the "Oldest Consecutive Cross Country race in the United States."

Boys - Girls

Boys

SO#1/US#14 Flower Mound TX met SO#2/US#20 Corpus Christi King TX for the first time this season at the McNeil Invite on the Texas state meet course. The field also included SO#3 Cinco Ranch TX, SO#4 Kingwood TX, SO#5 A&M Consolidated TX, SO#6 Cedar Park TX and SO#8 Marcus TX.

Corpus Christi King prevailed with 107 points, a 16:14 average and a :34 1-5 split. They were led by sr Ari Perez in 7th. "Great American was a great experience last year (15th in ROC). I told the team if you want to travel this year you've got to earn it (Nike Team National)," said King Coach Tom Castillo.

Flower Mound was a close 2nd with 116, a 16:16 average, a 1:05 split and were led by sr J B Lagos in 4th. Flower Mound Coach Herbert Perez was "pleased overall. It's tough when you have 4 in the top 19 and end up 2nd. This is our 5th man's 1st big meet on varsity so it was a good experience for him and will pay off down the road."

Cedar Park ran well for 3rd with 167 and a 16:27 average, Cinco Ranch was 4th with 193 (16:33 avg.), A&M Consolidated took 5th with 238 (16:39 avg.) and Marcus finished 6th with 310 (16:49 avg). Kingwood was well back in 17th with 416, but ran two teams. Their combined top 5 finishers would have scored 292 (16:48 avg.) so it may be a question of choosing the ìrightî 7 to toe the line in the late season.

Next: Flower Mound races at Grace Prep while King is at the Carroll Invite in Corpus Christi. Cinco Ranch, Kingwood and A&M Consolidated compete at Humble. Cedar Park will be at Cy Fair while Marcus hosts the Marcus II Invite.
