The course at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock is moderately hilly. Each race has 12 teams (top 3 from each of the 4 Region meets) plus about 20 individuals (from each Region any top 10 individuals whose team did not qualify).

The 5A boys race features 9 South ranked teams. US#3 The Woodlands is looking to repeat and increase their state record to 12 titles. Plano sr Scott MacPherson (8:54, National Foot Locker #2 returner)is heavily favored to defend his 5A title which hasn't happened since Brad Hauser of Kingwood in 1994. He'll also be chasing the State meet and all-time course record 14:58 by Rod Koborsi of Jersey Village at the 2000 5A State Meet. The other returners from last year's top ten are Odessas sr Alex Escontrias (5th) and Southlake Carroll sr Kevin Ondrasek (10th). The 5A girls race features 8 of the South ranked teams. US#5 Kingwood will be tested by US#18 Southlake Carroll and defending champ SO#3 Cedar Park . Last year's individual champ Westfield soph Nichole Jones has stiff competition including Plano West sr Erin Bedell (4:43 mile, National Foot Locker finalist) and 5 of the top 12 Foot Locker South returners.

In the boys race Texas Coaches poll #1 Lockhart is favored. They'll be challenged by Region winners Hereford , Midway and Friendswood plus defending champ Boerne, Klein Oak and Fort Worth North Side. Region champs are Gerzaia Valenzuella of Hereford , Andrew Rogers of Midway, Edy Vargas of Foster and Travis Fort of Vista Ridge. In the girls race SO#4 Highland Park will be tough to beat. Other strong teams include Region titleists El Paso Del Valle (last year's winner), Caney Creek and Gregory-Portland. Defending champ Tia Martinez of Hebron is back along with Region winners Betzy Jimenez of Hereford, Andrea Buxton of Lake Dallas, Kinsie Arnst of Klein Oak and Amy Fowler from Lake Travis.

Boys Coaches poll #1 Bridge City won its Region with 36 points and will face other Region winners Canyon , Lindale and Yoakum. The top returner is Brownfield sr Gary Lackey (2nd last year) who was 2nd in his region to Blake Barton of West. Other Region champs are Chris Pearson of Mt. Vernon , Aaron Brannen of Bridge City and Ernesto Perales from Valley View. Girls #1 Canyon scored 23 in its Region and looks to repeat. They're favored over Region champs Eustace, #2 Giddings and Llano. A strong girls field includes Region winners Morgan Kuykendall of Canyon, Catherine Loden of White Oak, Michelle Guzman from Giddings and Erica Alvarado of Falfurrias.

Boys Coaches poll #2 Boys Ranch looks to improve on its 2003 runner-up spot coming off a region win. Challengers include Paradise , 2003 champ Krum, Union Grove and Riviera-Kaufer. Individual Region titleists are Nick Everett of Salado (defending champ), Kolin Styles of Holliday, Brett Shepherd of Argyle and CK Hoya from Woden. Girls #1 Celina will get competition from fellow Region champs Holliday, Chapel Hill and Academy. The 2003 winner Leigh Berger of Weimer will race Region champs Addison Lemaster from Tulia, Loren Hodges of Paradise and Kim Bartlett of Elysian Fields.

Boys Coaches poll #1 Plains joins fellow Region winners Eula, North Hopkins and Priddy. Individual Region titleists are Jose Villegas from Plains, Cory Higgins from Eula, Kyle LaCroix from McLeod and Nick Rodriguez of Moulton. Girls #1 and 2003 champ North Hopkins races other Region winners Sundown, Alvord and Thorndale. The 2003 runner-up Kate Hollenshead of North Hopkins faces Region winners Kayla Warren of Sundown, Chelsea Hermes of Lindsay and Karlee Shimp from Knippa. |
