It doesn't get any better than this at this time of the season. Cool, no wind and three of the top 21 teams in the US in the same race, including the US#1. Fayetteville-Manlius came into the race as a clear favorite, having beaten the US#5 CBA NJ squad at Manhattan a week before CBA beat Saratoga Springs at Brown. But this is the end of the season, when coaches and athletes have been aiming for their best performances. Saratoga got that, and FM came up four points short, 39-43 on the fast, two-speedbump trail course at Queensbury HS, their Sectional course they had torched a week earlier. Moving closer was US#21 Warwick Valley, but the race for top honors in a week at the Federation Championships at Bowdoin Park should be between these two powers. More room for passing. And a bigger hill.

Hilton has declined their invite to the NY Federation meet on 11/19 to get healthy for all possible later season races, which leaves Saratoga Springs with Warwick Valley, Suffern, Ward Mellville and Bronxville as their main competition in a week at NY Federations.

For the past several weeks, previously ranked Roxbury NJ (pre-season NE#2) has been at full strength. On 11/12 at the NJ Groups meet, they informed everyone exactly what full strength means... tearing up the course with a 19:16.20 team average, missing the all-time course average record by just .4 per athlete. They are also only the 2nd NJ girls team to put five runners under 20 minutes on the course in the same race since Bernards did it in 1982. It's looking like they are now heavy favorites to win the Meet of Champions on 11/19 at Holmdel. Morris Knolls, who had been the victims of Roxbury for a few consecutive weeks in leagues and sections, finished 2nd 72 points behind the onslaught. NE#10 Jackson NJ was 4th behind unranked Howell.
