1/27-DVGTCA Meet #7 @ West Chester University -
Don't sit on the entrance end of the stands at indoor states this year if you want to see some great shot putters. Four of the season's best showed how it's done once again, led by the super frosh Karen Shump of Penncrest with a throw of 39-00.50. Interboro senior Katie Johnson was 2nd at 36-00.50; Alahna Owens, another freshman, 3rd at 35-04, and North Penn senior Angela Pasquale 4th at 35-03. Pennridge posted a DMR of 13-09.4.

1/28-Slippery Rock HS Indoor #2 @ Slippery Rock University -
Nicole Smith improved to US#6 with a final leap of 18-11.50 in the Long Jump. She also improved her season-best in the 55 Hurdles, running 8.63. And her 5-06 High Jump was enough for the win. Alexandra Acker cleared 10-06, as did Kendall Butch of Butler, to go 1-2 in the Pole Vault. Natalie Clickett, Union City, won the Shot Put with a toss of 37-11.50. Jeff Weiss of McGuffey, ran his only indoor race of the season, going solo in the 3200 in 9:34.6, after splitting 4:40 for the opening mile. Weiss will spend February weekends on college visits. More when we have results. Photo gallery coming. Erie Central's Bobby Fletcher took the 55 Dash in 6.70 seconds. Rob Rankin, Upper St. Clair, threw 54-06 in the Shot Put. Buddy Rose of Chartiers Houston cleared 14-0 to win the Pole Vault.

1/28-TFCAGP D2 Meet @ 8 @ Kutztown University -
The 55 hurdles and the 200m were the hot events of the day. Chichester's Carrington Queen took the hurdles in a blazing 7.5, and Conwell Egan's Steve Slaton held off the closing speed of Penncrest's Andrew McCloskey, with both men going 23.2. Penncrest's Mike Morganti had more success in the shot put, continuing his undefeated streak in league competition with a throw of 51-05

1/29-TFCAGP D1 Meet @ 8 @ Glen Mills Schools -
Juan Cave of St. Joseph's Prep hit 6-10 again in the High Jump. Shawn Minnick, Council Rock South, threw 54-09 to win the Shot Put. The North Penn 4x800 continues their tune-up for the championship portion of indoor, going 8:13.4. Bensalem showcased their speed with Lamont Louis taking the 200 in 22.8 seconds, and Reggie Carter capturing the two-lapper in 51.3. The 3,000 was quick, as Cardinal O'Hara junior Greg Thomas went 9:01.0, LaSalle's Sean McGinley 9:04.9 and Central's Thurman Sanders, 9:05.4.

1/28-TSTCA Meet @ 3 @ Slippery Rock University -
North Allegheny junior Max Brown hasn't had a lot of luck in recent seasons, getting sick just in time for Districts. But this winter he's healthy, and he's showing what a few observant WPIAL coaches have known all along... the kid has talent. What he did at the TSTCA's 3rd indoor meet was run the race to plan, and notch a US#6 8:48.7 3000. Just behind in 8:49.2 was Ellwood City junior Jake Walker, whose time is US#8. Walker tried to break the race open early, and did put a nice gap on the field. But Brown held to pace, cranking 35-36, until the consistent effort gave him contact. He then pulled ahead over the final 400 to get the win. Bradford junior Erin Hannon had a good day, finishing well in the 55 Hurdles with an 8.6 win, and taking the Long Jump with a leap of 17-06.
In the sprints, West Allegheny's Cardel Johnson was a double victor, taking the 55 in 6.5 seconds, and going 23.5 in the 200. Brianna Jacobs of Uniontown, won her 55 meter dash in 7.1 seconds. Latrobe's Caitlin Hewitt cleared 11-0 to win the Pole Vault. And Samantha Fetter of Hempfield led four girls over 35' in the Shot Put. Her throw of 38-09 was the best of the meet by over two feet. And in the boys' High Jump, B.J. Wolfgang of Thomas Jefferson cleared 6-04.
