Is there a chink in the Fayetteville-Manlius NY armor? Maybe a little one. US#1 FM didn't sweep, but they still handled a talented field in the Class AA boys at the New York state meet, going 7-8-13-15-23, with displacers, scoring 32 points, 22 better than NE#2 Lockport. Previously ranked Saratoga Springs was 20 back from that. Ryan Sheridan, a Walt Whitman sophomore, won handily in 15:44.8.

#8 Coatesville PA

They came so close. Averaging 15:49 on 11/29 at the District 1 race at Lehigh University sent a clear message. The team was back from an early season injury to #1 runner Amin Garnett. And it was almost enough. Just five points separated them from NE#2 Cedar Cliff. They could be PA's top returning team next year with a sophomore-dominated squad.

#9 Toms River North NJ
#10 Cherokee NJ
Unranked Old Bridge NJ

Unranked Old Bridge 87 knocked off NE#9 Toms River North 90 and NE#10 Cherokee 106 in Group IV at the NJ Groups meet 11/13 @ Holmdel Park. But all is not over for any of these teams because on 11/20 they will race each other along with NE#4 Christian Brothers Academy and NE#6 Morris Hills at the NJ All-Group meet.

Because they compete in the same Section in New York as Saratoga Springs, they had to sit out this Saturday's state meet. Both have received invitations to NY Federation camps on 11/20. Only one team per section qualifies for the state meet in each classification.

#7 Roxbury NJ

Roxbury easily won Group IV in the NJ Group Champs at Holmdel Park. This was a tune-up for All-Groups on 11/20, where they will face Parochial A power, Monsignor Donovan. FM will race NE#3 Lockport NY for the first time since the McQuaid Invitational on Oct 2 in the Boys Class AA race at the NYSPHSAA State Meet at Chenango Valley State Park near Binghamton. McQuaid is the last time someone cracked the Fayetteville-Manlius top five, and it wasn't Lockport. Also in the race will be previously ranked Saratoga Springs and Warwick Valley. The rest of NY will have to wait for an invitation to Federations on Nov 20th to get there shot at FM, including Shenendehowa, which is in the same Section as Saratoga. Only one team from each section qualifies for States. Federations includes at-large bids.

#2 Cedar Cliff PA

Whew. Won states 11/6 by a narrow margin over surging Coatesville. Both averaged 16:43 on a tough Hersheypark layout that included 20 mph headwinds for the first 3/4 mile, which featured the course's toughest hill.

#4 Christian Brothers Academy NJ

CBA, after beating NE#9 Toms River North by 13 at the Shore Conference meet last week, will race in the Parochial A section aiming simply to qualify for the Meet of Champs 11/20 at the NJ All-Group Championships, also at Holmdel Park.

#7 Chaminade NY

Will run at the CHSAA Intersectional Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in NYC. It's the qualifier for New York Federations on 11/20.

These two teams should finish one-two at the Group Championships 11/13 at Holmdel Park in Group IV, large schools. TRN is racing well, having lost by only 13 last week to CBA at the Shore Conference meet. But all is not over after this meet, because on 11/20 they should get to race each other along with NE#4 Christian Brothers Academy and NE#6 Morris Hills at the NJ All-Group meet.
