Summaries

11/28-Leach, Thomas, Simkins off to fast starts @ DVGTCA Meet #1. Nicole Leach, Latavia Thomas, Krista Simkins - the names are well-known and not one of the three stars is yet a senior. Our good fortune, as the three got off to fast starts with the 2004 indoor season at Lehigh University. Leach, now a junior, absolutely smoked a 600 yards in 1:25.2, winning by seven seconds. Thomas, her sophomore teammate at West Catholic, went 2:46.0 for 1000 yards. The two then teamed Kneshia Sheard and Katie Motyka to win the 4x400 in 4:09.2. Wissahickon junior Krista Simkins ran alone to win the 400 in 58.6, and got second in the 55 Dash to Great Valley junior Janessa Murphy, both timed in 7.3. Gratz senior Sabrina Shaw cruised to an easy win in the 55 Hurdles, going 8.4 in the Prelims, while teammate Angela Wells soared 18-08.50 to win the Long Jump. In other field events, William Tennent senior Nicole Kulp triple jumped 35-09.50, and Tayvon Gray, a Coatesville junior, won the Shot Put with a throw of 37-08.50.

12/5-Snow can't slow West Catholic & Gratz @ DVGTCA Meet #2. The snow caused schools to close and traffic to crawl, buut it couldn't stop the hardy few who made it to Ursinus for DVGTCA Meet #2, especially the girls from West Catholic and Simon Gratz. West Catholic held off Gratz in the 4x200 by .8, going 1:46.8, opened by Nicole Leach, and anchored by Latavia Thomas. Kaneshia Sheard and Bridgette Ramsey took the 2nd and 3rd legs. Individually, Leach won the 300y in 36.9, and was 2nd to Gratz senior Sabrina Shaw in the 55 hurdles, both timed in 8.4. West Catholic soph Thomas took the 600y in 1:28.6, with Gratz junior Jabria Wallace in at 1:32.0. St. Hubert's DMR cruised to a win in 12:46.7.

12/12-Amy Kelly 10:12.1, Tayvon Gray 38-05.25 @ DVGTCA Meet # 3 @ Ursinus. St. Hubert senior Amy Kelly found out quickly just how strong she is after a solid XC season, pulling away and powering to a 10:12.1 3000 meter win. Coatesville junior Tayvon Gray upped her season best by over 8" in the Shot Put, winning with a throw of 38-05.25. The two hottest relays were the 4x800, where Hatboro-Horsham, with a 2:15 split from Caitlin Klaas, went 9:36.2 for a very quick early season win; and West Catholic cruised to a 4:01.3 victory in the 4x400. Boyertown junior Natalie Miller cleared 5-04 to win the High Jump. Gratz got good performances from Sabrina Shaw, winning the 55 Hurdles in 8.5, and Angela Wells, taking the 300 Yard Run in 38.0. Kneshia Sheard and Ciarra Lawson teamed with Latavia Thomas and Nicole Leach to take the 4x400 in 4:01.3. And Krista Simkins, Wissahickon, captured the 600 Yard Run in 1:29.5.

12/13-Dubs rocks shot over 56'. Cave 6-06 HJ @ TFCAGP D1 Meet #2 @ Haverford. Council Rock South senior Andrew Dubs won the Shot Put with a strong 56-02.50 throw, more than two feet better than his 8th place AAA States effort in outdoor. Prep's Juan Cave finished third at Indoor States in 2003, and matched that jump with a 6-06 effort at Haverford in the first meet for the boys. Central's Mike Wray won the 60 Hurdles in
8.1 after going 8.2 in the Trials. And the Central DMR of Thurman Sanders, Mike Taras, Justin Sullivan, and Mike Syrnick went 10:52.4 for the win. O'Hara, minus a resting Steve Hallinan, was second, four seconds back.

12/13-Fritz goes 6-08, Tyson 51-05 SP @ TFCAGP D2 Meet #2 @ Haverford.
Octorara junior Ryan Fritz won the AA Outdoor State Championships in 2003, and cleared 6-08 to win the first Indoor meet of the 2004 campaign. In the Shot Put, Upper Merion's Steve Tyson, who was 4th at Indoor States in 2003, won with a throw of 51-05. Upper Dublin held off Strath Haven by 1.5 seconds in the DMR with an 11:01.2 effort.
