Girls -
Finishing with a winning time of 11:32.4, junior Connie Abbott ran away
with Saturday's race with average splits of 5:46 per mile. The Shawnee
Mission South front runner finished 45 seconds in front of sophomore,
runner up, Hilary Forman (12:27.6) of Pembroke Hill, MO. As for the team
title, the ladies of Bishop Miege stood out with a score of 26 points.
Their top runner, senior Sarah Glatt, finished in third place with a time
of 12:34.4. All of Miege's top seven runners’ finished under twelfth
place. Olathe East, another tough Kansas team to beat this year, finished
in second place with 48 points. By finishing in fourth place, freshman
Ashli Kelso led the way for East in a time of 12:43.3. Shawnee Mission
South finished in third place with a score of 98 total points.
Boys -
In a mere photo finish, Jay Matlock of Mill Valley out sprinted senior
Brain Hatliner of Shawnee Mission South. In a winning time of 16:32.8,
the Mill Valley junior squeaked past Hatliner (16:33.3), but South finished
with 86 points as a team opposed to Mill Valley's score of 122. As for
the top two teams, Olathe East had to settle for its second second place
plaque with 71 points. The Olathe East boys finished as the top Kansas
team, but Park Hill South, Missouri won with 42 points. Lead by senior
Matt Pence (3rd, 16:44.4), Park Hill South showed up against several good
Kansas teams.
Beloit Invitational

Boys -
The boy’s race was small but still competitive. Led by Clark McDonald,
Belleville finished in first place with 49 points. McDonald toured the
course in a comfortable time of 17:18. Only six points away was Concordia
with 55 points. Clay Center finished in third with 68 points.
Girls -
The Osborne girls claimed victory in the team standings with senior Jolene
Mick adding her name to the few crop of runners under 12:00 minutes in
Kansas. Mick blasted through the course with an up tempo finish of 11:52.
Not too far away was her teammate/classmate Ashley Noel (2nd) and Clay
Center rival Augusta Newmeyer (3rd). The ladies of Osborne defeated Clay
Center with a 12 point spread 45 to 57. Noel's kick only gave her a second
on, the sophomore [Newmeyer], yet the duo finished with times of 12:23
and 12:24. With 85 points, the Concordia girls finished in third place.
Parkway West Invitational

Boys -
This season, Missouri has been know for its Harrier ranked teams #3 West
Plains Zizzers and #10 Liberty Blue Jays, but another team could quite
possibly add their name to one of those lists. With a perfect score, Blue
Springs finished with all five scorers under sixth place and six runners
in the top nine. Second year runner, Travis Crutcher (Jr.) was the overall
victor with a winning time of 16:26. Even with Blue Springs Wildcat’s
usual front runner, Tony Camareno, finishing in third place, Kirkwood
high school finished second with 70 points. Kansas City area high school
running cannot wait see a clash between the Wildcats and the Blue Jays.
This remarkable achievement widens the class 4A battle which includes
many Midwest’s greatest teams.
Girls -
The hopefuls of class 3A, Notre Dame de Sion, matched up with one of
4A's top girls team. However, Lafayette came out on top, 25 to 48, over
de Sion in this cross state shoot out. In a time of 19:14, freshman Taylor
Scott led the way for Lafayette by adding an individual victory to her
accomplishments. Senior miler Jesse Violand completed the duce for Lafayette
by finishing second in a time of 19:22. Anna Flurzack's third place effort
helped Notre Dame de Sion to their second place finish.
Horton Invitational

Boys -
After a recovery week, the third ranked Harrier team dominates the field
in Memphis, Tennessee. In a near sweep, the Zizzer boys finished with
a total of 19 points. Senior Josh Harper maintained his undefeated streak
with he and teammate Matt Brown finishing with times of 15:14. Senior
Brian Roe finished 140 meters back in third place with a time of 15:42.
Bartlett was the closest team to West Plains with a score of 76 points.
Their lead runner Kunle Oladehin (15:48) finished a second behind West
Plains's #4, Ian McFarland (15:47).
Girls -
The West Plains ladies were at it again with an even larger point spread
than the boys. Hutchison's group finished with 127 points and 103 behind
West Plains's total of 24 points. The one-two punch of sophomore Jennifer
Harper and freshman Mindy Lahey silenced the opposition with finishes
of 18:16 and 18:44, respectively. The Lady Zizzers included all seven
finishers within 12th place and their top 5 within the19:32 mark. The
one question that baffles everyone is how long will the "Harper Family
Hot Streak" last.
Grandview Invitational

5,000 Meters (Rolling hills/downhills)
Boys -
Lee's Summit North junior Adam Scrogham breaks the school record by one
second with his first sub 16:00 minute performance of 15:55. St. Joseph
Central sophomore Chris Pullen was the closest finisher, to Scrogham,
by 26 seconds. However, Pullen lead his team to victory with a score of
39 points. Finishing second and third were Lee's Summit North with 69
points and Liberty, who ran their junior varisty squad, with 71 points.
Girls -
Raymore Peculiar sophomore Kaly Prather and Blue Springs junior Stephanie
Lavin went down to the wire in a close finish. Prather prevailed 19:07
vice Lavin in 19:08, but Lavin and junior Amber Knebel (3rd) topped off
Blue Springs's 10 point victory over St. Joseph Central 33 to 43. Raymore
Peculiar finished just ahead of Liberty's junior varsity team with a score
of 115 to 116.
Hayden Invitational

Boys -
The boy's race for the team title ended in a stiff showdown! Baldwin finished
with their top five runners under 18th place, but Lawrence Free State's
combination of Hiral Bhakta finishing first (16:46), Adrian Ludwig finishing
second (16:46) and Alex Rock finishing fourth, made the race look even
more one-sided. Yet, St. Thomas Aquinas finished with four runners in
the top nine and claimed victory. Third place finisher Brady Pyle lead
his team to victory with 41 points leaving Free State with 52 and Baldwin
with 55.
Girls -
Lawrence Free State's Alysha Valencia continues a very consistant season
with her victory over a couple of strong competitors. Valencia took the
tape in a time of 12:02 over Erica Ogle of Baldwin. The Baldwin junior
finished in a time of 12:10 with junior Madeline Harms of Washburn Rural
4 seconds behind in 12:14. Grace DelNero's fourth place performance helped
St. Thomas Aquinas to a 53 to 70 point victory over Baldwin. Aquinas finished
with all five scorers within 18th place as Baldwin finished with 3 runners
under 12th place.
