Maryland v. Virginia
is the highlight of many events, with North Carolina, Michigan,
Georgia, Pennsylvania, New York and DC thrown into the mix as 2,000
athletes converge on Interstate 81 in the Blue Ridge of southwestern
Virginia. The fast, banked oval at Rector Fieldhouse should yield
some nation-leading times. Schedule and performance lists are posted
on DyeStat's Virginia Tech

Prince George's County MD teams will continue their argument from
last week's county championships between Eleanor Roosevelt, Largo,
Suitland, and C.H. Flowers. They are joined by MD private school
power Dematha. From Georgia comes New Horizon TC, with Courtney
Champion (US#1 at 55 meters after her LSU win) and Reggie Witherspoon
(a 46.08 400m man last spring). Mumford Detroit journeys down from
Michigan hoping to duplicate last year's successes: Kenneth Ferguson
has graduated, but Jimmie Jones is US#1 at 800 meters (1:55.25).
Woodrow Wilson carries the District of Columbia flag. North Carolina
sends sophomore sprint sensation J-Mee Samuels and miler Matt Debole
of the powerhouse Mount Tabor squad. Virginia standouts include
Bethel HS, Yvette Lewis, US#1 55D Joe Robinson, Andrew Keino, and
Alex Tatu. Pennsylvania claims the top-seeded pole vaulter, Andrew
Rademacher (15-7). Heather Iatauro of New York is making the longest
trip to run in this meet.
