Philadelphia Area 12/4 weekend

The indoor season got underway in the Philadelphia area with three meets
over the weekend. The girls competed Friday evening at Kutztown
University with several performances meeting either Nike or last year's
NSI qualifying standards. All schools compete together, including public
(city and suburban), private, and parochial.
Girls compete as one division. The boys are divided into Division II
(small schools) and Division I (large schools). DII boys ran Saturday
afternoon, DI boys, Saturday morning at Haverford College. No
performances met Nike standards.
In the 400 meter run, two competitors broke the meet record of 57.8
which was set last season by Jamillah Wade of Simon Gratz. First went to
Danielle Rogers, Penn Wood (57.5), 2nd: Stacey Holmes, Simon Gratz
(57.7). Both performances met both this year's Nike and last year's NSI
qualifying standards.
The top three competitors in the 55 meter hurdles met the handheld Nike
Indoor standards: Danielle Bobo, Penn Wod (8.4), Nicole Wiley, Padua
Academy (8.4), Tyeshia Thomas, William Penn (8.6).
In the Shot put, Jessica Johnson of North Penn threw 38-11, meeting the
Nike standards. And in the 4 x 400 meter relay, the William Penn team of
Christiuna Smith, Juanita Broaddus, Gorgeous Harper, and Tyesha Thomas
eaily won their event with a Nike qualifying performance of 4:04.1,
missing last year's NSI standard by .1.
