On Site Summary - by John Nepolitan girls - boys

Girls High Jump
Saniel Atkinson (Bishop McNamara, Md) was an easy winner clearing 5’6”(tied for # 3 USA) for a 4” win over the rest of the medal winners who all cleared 5’2”

Girls Pole Vault
Natalie Parkes (Huntderon Central, NJ) was the class of the field clearing 11'00" to claim the title.

Girls Triple Jump
National leader Gabriella Baiter (John Glenn, NY) jumped a new meet record 39'09-3/4” to claim the crown and also win the outstanding field performer award. Behind Baiter (Nwamaka Okobi Freeport, NY) became the 3rd longest performer of the young season with a 38'10" final jump to claim 2nd.

Girls Shot Put
Betty William (Longwood, NY) 42'02.5" won a tight battle over the New Rochelle, NY duo of Kadine Johnson 42'01.75" and Krystal Graham 41'01.5".

Girls 200
55 m champ Trisha Hawthorne (Hamilton, NY) remained undefeated with a 24.84(#3 USA) win. Running in lane 5 Hawthorne bolted from the line catching Shanae Bailey (Swenson, Pa) 1 lane outside of her by the 100 meter point then held on down final straight to claim her second win of the day.

Girls 800
Brittany Sheffey (Bellport, NY) took the field through a fast opening 200 of 31 and opened a sizeable margin over the next two laps. Over the final 200 the Tennessee bound runner may have slowed, but she had more than enough to hold on for the win. Sheffey would stop the clock at 2:10.77(#2 USA) with Sarah McCurdy (Bay Shore, NY) 2:12.90 in 2nd and North Shore(NY) freshman Brianna Welch in 3rd 2:13.87.

Girls 4 x 400 relay
Cardoza would attempt to build up a lead using 400 winner Dalilah Muhammad and hurdle winner Lindsey Rowe in the middle legs. The strategy looked like it had worked as it had at the Loughlin Games as the New York school held a 20 meter lead going into the final leg. Behind the leaders Boys and Girls HS(NY) and Bishop McNamara(Md) would get the baton together and battle each other slowly drawing in on the leader. Coming off the final turn the three teams were side by side. A slight bump between Boys & Girls and McNamara would not effect the final outcome as Boys & Girls would edge ahead for the 3:54.33(USA#1) win over Cardoza(3:54.50) with McNamara claiming 3rd in 3:54.69.

Girls 4 x 800
Through the first two legs Carmel(NY) had the lead and looked like a runaway winner, but a strong 3rd leg by Julie Hudak(Pearl River, NY) would close the race up, but Carmel had Kristen Reese, winner of the invitational mile earlier in the day, on the end. Carmel would pull away to an easy 9:29.14(USA #1) win over Pearl River 9:40.69 and Lincoln Sudbury(Ma) 9:42.56.

Girls 3000 Meter Run
Kristin Munn(Pearl River, NY) did most of the early pace work while Lillian Greibesland(Warwick Valley, NY) sat back in the pack. Moving through the field over the later stages of the race Greibesland moved to the lead with 400 to go and pulled away for an easy win.

1. Greibesland 10:27.97
2. Carrie Wortham(St Catherines, Va) 10:33.43

Leaders splits – 77 – 2:40-4:09-5:34-7:03-8:30 – 9:53

Girls 4 x 200 Relay Final
Just as they have doen all season Medger Evers jumped to the front and never looked back as they went on to a 1:40.57 win.

Invitational Girls 400
Dalillah Mohammed(Cardoza, NY) simply outclassed the field leading wire to wire and crossing the line with a 54.85 win. Using the same tactic in heat two
Nadonnia Rodriques(Boys & Girls, NY) would blow her heat away with a 56.17 performance good for 2nd overall.

Invitational Girls Mile
Grabbing the lead from the gun Kristin Reese(Carmel, NY) refused to let anybody by and held on for the 4:55.66 win and an automatic birth into the Millrose Games HS Mile. Behind Reese 3 other girls crossed the line within .6 of each other with Suejin Ahn(Ward Melville, NY) 2nd in 4:56.22, Tori Pennings(Warwick Valley, NY) 3rd in 4:56.28 and Callie Hogan(Bay Shore, NY) 4th in 4:56.80

Reese’s splits – 70.9 – 2:25.7-3:41.6

Boys Long Jump
Conlon Bonner (Laguardia, NY) 22-06(#2 USA) would win a tight battle with Hanie Kendrick (Franklin, Pa) 22-05 (#4 USA) to claim the title.

Boys High Jump and Triple Jump
Devon Bond(Trenton Central, NJ) continued to search for the first 7’ jump of the indoor season after winning with a 6’6” clearance having the bar raised 6”. Bond was not able to clear the next height, but come back later to claim the triple jump crown with a USA #1 performance 48’ 6” and claim the meets outstanding field performer award.

Boys 200
Brandon Bing (Cheltenham, Pa) would line up in lane 6 after having the #2 qualifying time. Flying down the back straight Bing would not allow the others in the field a chance to contend for the title and would go on to stop the clock in a swift 21.81 to claim the national lead to complete the sprint double having taken the 55 meter crown earlier in the day.

Boys 800
The Pleasantville (NJ) duo of Alan Lewis and Alex Best went right to the front and tried to control the pace, but Brian Schmidt (Kellenberg, NY) was not intimidated and tried to break up the two. Lewis would refuse to surrender the lead and hold on for a 1:56.94 (#4 USA) – 1:57.73 win over Schmidt.

Boys 4 x 400
As the 2nd legs were circling the track Newburgh(NY) held a slight lead over Mepham(NY) and Trenton Central(NJ). On the 2nd leg Baldwin(NY) would work its way up to the leaders shoulder on the strength of 400 meter winner Stephon Beckford’s strong leg. Slowly moving through the field Willingboro(NJ) was getting back in the race. Newburgh would make a last second chance between scheduled 3rd and 4th runners in an attempt to build a lead, but Willingboro remained calm and with just 1 lap to go in the race found itself back on the leaders shoulder. Down the final back straight the New Jersey school, home of all-time great Carl Lewis, would pull away for a 3:24.80(#3 USA) – 3:26.48 win over Newburgh with Baldwin crossing 3rd in 3:26.66.

Boys 4 x 800
At the front of the field in the last event of the 13 hour long meet had Warwick(NY) and Kellenburg(NY) going back and forth drawing them away from the field. Meanwhile buried after the 1st leg Pleasantville(NJ) looked to be out of it, but strong middle legs by 800 meter winner Alan Best and Alex Best brought the New Jersey school free of the pack and close to the leading duo. As the lead two started to get tactical going through the first two laps of their leg in 63, Pleasantville closed in. Behind the now lead three a pack of four were moving even thinking that they too may be able to grab the victory. Just as it looked like the leaders were letting everyone back in the race, Pleasantville struck for home and moved to the front for good. Pleasantville would take the title with the #2 time in the USA 8:04.13 and lead 5 others under 8:10.

Boys 2 Mile Run
Footlocker finalist Brandon Jarrett(St Benedicts, NJ) took the lead from the gun and stormed away to a 9:14.65 victory over Ben Hall (Victor, NY) 9:27.22

Jarrett’s splits – 65-2:15-3:24-4:34 – 5:44-6:55-8:07

Invitational Boys Mile
Ryan McDermott(Chaminade, NY) found himself on the lead early and after a slow opening 400 (67) started to up the pace. Running back to back 64’s(2:11 for 800 and 3:15 for 1200) still found McDermott on the front, but right behind was Charles White(Garden City, NY) and Kevin Gill(Brockton, Ma). With 300 to go White attacked and made his bid for the win. A 30 second next to last 200 took White clear of the field and now it was just a case of could he take down the meet record of 4:13. Running his last 200 also in 30 would bring White home in 4:15.05 and earn him an automatic starting position on the starting line at the 100th Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden.

In the boys AM sections(19 of them) of the mile Jesse Thompson(Bayshore, NY) ran 4:24.17 leading most of the way.

Invitational Boys 400
The 1st of 3 heats of the Invitational boys 400 was supposed to be the fastest heat, but as it turned out each heat would get faster and faster. National 800 leader Lionel Williams(St Peter’s, NY) would win the 1st section with a 49.91 performance only to have that bettered by Sean Troop(South Shore, NY) with a 49.08. Not to be outdone, Stephon Beckford(Balwin, NY) stormed out of the blocks and used the slight downhill of lane 6 to blow heat 3 away with a 48.87 to take the title.

Boys 4 x 200 Relay Final
Camden had run a 1:29.59 to beat instate rival Trenton Central (1:30.12) in the trials and with all 6 teams under 1:32.39 it was sure to be a battle the entire way. Camden would be 1st at the opening exchange and coming into the 2nd exchange looked like they were simply going to dare the other 5 teams to try to catch them. Behind Camden, Trenton Central would take a fall on the 2nd exchange removing them from any chance at catching the early leader. Camden would run free and clear the remainder of the race and record a national leading mark of 1:28.48

Camden splits
22.4
21.7
22.6
21.2

Boys Pole Vault
Four years ago 15’6” would have been a new New York State record, today 3 boys cleared that height, but none could jump any higher. After 15’0” Nick David (Mt Sinai) was in 3rd behind Kyle Duggan(Monsignor Farrell, Staten Island, NY) and Jon Bednarz(Fordham Prep, NY) having gotten over the bar on his 3rd attempt. Once the bar was raised to 15’6” , a 1st attempt clearance and personal best equaling by David would jump him from 3rd to 1st while Duggan would clear a personal best on his 3rd attempt dropping him into 3rd behind Bednaz who would also clear a personal best and school record 15’6” on his 2nd attempt.
