SteveU's DyeStat  Girls XC Top 25
2008 Individual XC Rankings
By Steve Underwood

The annual DyeStat XC Top 25 series (formerly Foot Locker Favorites and renamed given additional options available now) are national and regional rankings of cross-country runners based on distance-running accomplishments to date, with an emphasis on XC and 3200/2M track results, rather than a projection of how the Foot Locker Finals or NXN Finals will turn out (predictions run later in the season). Early season rankings have significant basis in top returnees from last fall and those who made significant progress as distance runners in track.  As the season progresses, this season's XC results weigh continually heavier.

Big three showdown gaining steam

NXN champs get a boost; Thompson over Ley in NJ showdown

  • The anticipation mounts for the expected Foot Locker Finals showdown of “Big Three” stars Ashley Brasovan, Jordan Hasay, and Kathy Kroeger.  Brasovan and Hasay continued their marches to state championship “four-peats” with regional and sectional victories, while Kroeger wrapped up her regular season by winning her state meet by a minute and a half.  It’s noteworthy that Kroeger’s winning 17:09 for 5K in TN was just 10 seconds off (on a tougher day) her 2006 state meet time that prefaced her Foot Locker victory.  It was announced that all three had registered for Foot Locker.
  • Another NXN Heartland champ, along with Zivec on the boys side, entered the rankings.  Ashlie Decker IA made it two straight Dowling Catholic champs in Sioux Falls, with 2007 champ and teammate Katie Flood 2nd.  They may be the best 1-2 combination in the country.
  • Two other NXN regional champs saw their ranking rise, as Alyssa Andrews WA entered the list after her Northwest win, while Stephanie Morgan OH rose a few spots after taking the Midwest race.
  • One of the best battles of the season took place at last weekend’s NJ Group 3 meet, as top-ten stars Lanie Thompson and Chelsea Ley met at last, with Thompson getting the victory on the kick at the end.  They'll meet again this week in the NJ MOC.
  • Emily Lipari, a pre-season top 10 choice after her Foot Locker 6th in 2007, is back on the radar.  A very low-key regular season has been followed by New York Class A and Federation titles the past two weeks.  Class AA NY champ Courtney Chapman had the best time of all the first weekend, then her team passed up Feds to rest and train for NXN New York.
