2007 Super 25 - Update 4

Neuqua Valley IL boys climb to #1; F-M NY, Saugus CA girls still undaunted

11/23/07 (based on results through November 17) - Boys - Girls

The Super 25 is produced by Marc Bloom, now in his 32nd year publishing the Harrier. You can subscribe to the Harrier for more news and features about high school running.

Notes by John Dye:

Boys - NTN regional champions Neuqua Valley IL (Midwest) and Albuquerque Academy NM (Southwest) traded places at the top based on NV's state meet victory and AA's close loss to Los Alamos in New Mexico.  Los Alamos in turn rose from 8th to 3rd on the strength of its state meet win over previous #1 AA and its 5-man tie with AA in the NTN Southwest regional. AA edged Los Alamos at Tempe on the 6th man tie breaker.   Late season peaks at state meets and NTN regionals since the November 2 update brought 11 new teams into the top 25, with the biggest jump by Central Catholic Portland OR (Oregon 6A champion and runner-up to North Central WA at NTN Northwest) at 6th place.  Perennial power York Elmhurst IL rose from 23rd to 7th on its runner-up finishes to Neuqua Valley in the Illinois state meet and the NTN Midwest.  It's the fourth straight year for York to make the NTN finals, finishing 1st, 2nd and 10th in the first three NTN's.  Midwest region has six teams in the top 25, with Southwest and Northeast getting four each.

Girls - Defending NTN champion Fayetteville-Manlius NY has had no peer this year, and #2  Saugus CA has rolled through the Golden State toward a possible showdown in Portland Dec. 1.  The next three spots are filled by surging teams on the rise -- Southwest champion Fort Collins CO, New England champion Hanover NH and New Jersey champion Voorhees, with dangerous Saratoga NY (2003 NTN champion) lurking in sixth place.  NTN Heartland champion Dowling Catholic DesMoines IA moved up from 15th to 7th. Three regions are tied for the most ranked teams at four -- Southwest, Heartland and New York.
