Gatorade Names State XC Runners of the Year
Company recognizes harriers in "Player of the Year" program for first time

In its third decade of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company, in partnership with RISE Magazine, has announced its inaugural Gatorade State Boys and Girls Cross-Country Runner of the Year classes. A boy and girl from the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states has been recognized.
The award is intended to recognize not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the racecourse. Each of these honorees are now finalists for the prestigious Gatorade National Boys and Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year awards to be announced in mid-January.
The Gatorade Player of the Year program has annually recognized winners in a similar manner for high school football, girls volleyball, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, baseball, softball, and boys and girls track & field. The selection process is administered by RISE Magazine, which works with top sport-specific experts and a media advisory board of accomplished, veteran prep sports journalists to determine the state winners in each sport.
