Prior Years The most famous New Balance Games for high school fans is the 2001 meet, when South Lakes VA sr Alan Webb broke the 4-minute mile barrier for the first time before going on to smash Jim Ryun's outdoor record later in 2001 and advancing to the Olympic Games in 2004. DyeStat has been covering the New Balance Games since 1999. 2001 New Balance Games - Alan Webb 3:59.86 - John Dye reported: | All week long, the promoters of the New Balance Games had been saying there was a mystery entry that would make it worth DyeStat's while to come to New York. By Thursday, the email message was, "You MUST come." Well, we came, and how sorry we would have been if we hadn't. In the most electrifying 4 minutes imaginable, South Lakes VA sr Alan Webb ran a 3:59.86 mile in the Men's Elite division against older runners, thus achieving these milestones: - US record indoor boys mile (breaking the record of Thom Hunt, San Diego CA, 4:02.7c, 1976.
- US record indoor 1500 meters, en route, 3:43.27 (Hunt 3:46.6c, 1976)
- 1st US sub-4:00 mile since 1967 (Marty Liquori)
- 4th US high schooler ever under 4 minutes
- 8th fastest US high school mile ever (Jim Ryun did it five times)

2007 - Tauro, Moen win Millrose invites; Muhammad beats Elites
Southern Regional NJ sr Danielle Tauro 4:46.13 blazes away from Easton PA jr Chanelle Price (4:50.65) to US#1 mile win. Chris Moen MD tops Ryan McDermott NY, 4:16.76-4:16.96, for another Millrose qualifier. Returning to the site of his 3:59.86 HSR (1st HS sub-4) in 2001, Alan Webb wins Elite Mile in 3:56.70. US#1 400 for Dalilah Muhammad NY as she wins Elite 400 over open/college athletes in 54.28.
| 2006 - McManamon, Costello win Millrose bids
Shenendehowa NY sr Dan McManamon 4:13.17 (Charles White NY 4:15.67) posts US#1 time. Conestoga PA sr Liz Costello wins in 4:56.09 (Katie Doswell VA 4:57.68). Suffern NY girls win the 4x800 in 9:11.74, their second US#1 time in two nights (11:45.73 DMR at Yale the night before) | | 2005 - Nicole Leach PA ran with Olympians Ronetta Smith and Ieva Zunda in the elite 400 and posted season leading 53.48 finishing second. New national pole vault record holder Mary Saxer won her specialty at 13-0. Mary Liz McCurdy won the mile effortlessly in 4:52.88. The National Track and Field Hall of Fame, formerly at Indianapolis, re-opened in its new home at the Armory. Sizzling competition in the high school miles were a fitting celebration on the track. Gavin Coombs CT 4:11.35 won the boys race with four more under 4:15 (Hakon Devries 4:11.38, Jeremy Zagorski 4:11.87, Kevin Tschirhart 4:12.69, Steve Hallinan 4:12.72, Andre Silva 4:12.86, and Brian McCabe 4:14.86). In the girls mile, Heather Iatauro NY 4:53.79 lunged at the tape to edge Laura Cummings 4:53.82. | 2003 - Natasha Hastings - Nicole Blood
A.P. Randolph NY jr Natasha Hastings set a national record in the 500 meters at 1:11.84. Saratoga NY freshman Nicole Blood broke the meet record with a 4:54.78 mile. | | 2002 - "It's New York vs. Maryland," announcer Ian Brooks shouted before the Armory's "signature event," the 4x200, and Maryland won. Eleanor Roosevelt MD had a relay triple as they also won the girls 4x400 and and boys 4x200. Sayville's Brian Dalpiaz, hottest distance runner in the US at the time, won the mile in 4:17.03. | 2000 - Mark Carroll, Regina Jacobs, Brian McGovern, Danielle Jelley star
"It was a great day to to be a track fan," said famous track writer Walt Murphy after meet records were set in the elite miles by Mark Carroll 3:54.98 and Regina Jacobs 4:21.79.
