Jordan's Final: Another Day in the Classroom - Story by SteveU

With fatigue starting to play a factor and with a mindset of "wanting to have fun" and not worrying about records or places, Jordan Hasay was 10th in the Final of the Women's 1500 in 4:17.36. Shannon Rowbury (4:05.48) hammered a strong kick to victory in the last lap, ahead of former New Jersey prep national champion Erin Donahue (4:08.20) and Christin Wurth (4:08.48).

Jordan Hasay
CA (photo at finish, right by John Nepolitan), granted an extension on travel to the World Juniors, made the most of her chance to run the 1500 semis with a moderate early pace, then one of the best kicks of her life to pass three runners into 5th and nab a place in Sunday's Final (she doesn't have fly to Poland until Monday). She broke by 1.92 seconds the recent record of Christine Babcock CA. Babcock herself was 9th in the same heat in 4:20.00 after leading early.

How they did in high school - Jim Spier's spreadsheet shows how the new US Olympians fared at Nike Indoor Nationals and Nike Outdoor Nationals.

Thu., July 3 - Different approaches yield similar results for Babcock, Hasay - Story by SteveU - Christine Babcock CA (4:18.32) and Jordan Hasay CA (4:18.39) each finished 7th in their 1500 heats, both qualifying on time for Friday's semifinals. Hasay was originally not going to be able to run the semis due to Friday's scheduled trip to the World Juniors in Poland, but she has been granted an extension to travel there later after competing in Eugene Friday. Erik Kynard OH was 17th in the LJ prelims with 7-00.50.

A's and B's at the Trials and the Games - In this story, Doug Speck of DyeStatCal reviews some of the complexities of the qualifying for these and other events, and the challenges the system poses to the athletes.
