Rancho Cucamonga boys 1:27.11, St. Mary's girls 1:37.86
Boys by SteveU - Fast times were the rule from the beginning of the 4x200, as Crenshaw started of the very first of four sections with a California-leading time of 1:28.38. But in the Invitational section, it was Rancho Cucamonga getting the big lead midway through the race and rolling to victory in 1:27.11, beating Long Beach Poly’s 1:27.80.
The victory was keyed by the running of standout Charles Saseun on the second leg, giving the team a sizable advantage that they never relinquished. Terrance Abram led off, followed by Saseun, Irshad Stolden, and William Scudder.
The team said they were motivated by the times in the early sections and by finally getting their group together. “It was our first legit week of working together,” said Stolden. “I was out for two weeks before with a quad strain.”
He added that it was a “game-time decision” by their coach, however, to run Saseun on the 2nd leg. “We can go 1:25,” he said.
Girls by Dave Devine - St. Mary’s Academy CA blazed a 1:37.86 to win the girls 4x200. Anchor Aunjel Street, the self-described “slowest 200 girl on the team,” inherited a major lead after the third leg burned the backstretch, and then managed to hold off a pair of fast-closing challengers from Long Beach Wilson CA and Long Beach Poly CA. “I could hear them coming,” she said, “but I was able to hold on.
Women’s 4x200
–Edison (Fresno) raced a fine 1:40.33 in the day’s first contest, the State’s #3 clocking of the spring.
The Invitational race had St. Mary’s emerge from the final hand-off after Yasmin Woodruff charged the
backstretch on leg 3 to race away toa 1:37.87 #3 US clocking (State Leader) with Long Beach Poly
1:38.61 with strong two final legs for the country’s #9 time of the year.
Mens’ 4x200 Relay
–LA City power Crenshaw threw down a 1:28.38 state leader in the first race, with Great Oak upping the
ante with a 1:27.95 in the next contest before the Invitational contest had Rancho Cucamonga blast a
1:27.11 clocking that is among the nation’s top fifteen for the year. Charles Saseun for RC blasted leg 2.
