Billings Invitational
9/01/06

Bozeman & Billings Senior Run Wild
By Aron Taylor

Billings Senior girls dominated top teams at their annual Billings
Invitational. Having the top 3 under 19 minutes, placing 4 in the top 10,
and all 7 varsity runners under 19:45 for the tough 3-mile course. NW#4
Billings dominated NW#6 Bozeman and Billings West with West performing
greater than expected.

The other big story was Billings West girls finishing
2nd; 9 points behind NW#4 Billings Senior and ahead of NW#6 Bozeman who
finished 3rd in the team scoring. West was led by individual champion Carly
Selleck who won with a time of 18:21, she was followed by her teammates, all
5 were under 19:30 placing 6,11,12,16th respectively. If their 5th runner
Carly Toepfer, who is really their #1 runner placing 7th at the 2005 State
Championships, gets back into form Billings West should be equal to or
better than Billings Senior. What is clear from this race is that Billings
West is a legitimate contender.

On the boys side, RM#10 Bozeman dominated scoring 28 points to defeat over a
dozen top ranked teams. Bozemans top 5 were all under 16:17 for the 3-mile
course, all in the top 11. (Daniel Jackson, Boz, 15:28; Andy Burns, Boz,
15:56; Alex Brekke, Boz, 16:01; M. Francis, Boz, 16:07; 11, Schlender,
16:17). The 21 second spread from 2-5 only strengthens Daniel Jackson's
position as breakout leader for a team which looks more and more like a
state championship contender. Look for Bozeman to challenge Flathead and Big
Sky in coming weeks. The boys race was won by Laurel's Patrick Casey in a
course record time of 15:09.

BOYS
