GIRLS: The Boise Girls #5 NW defended their Southern Idaho Conference District 3 Championship for the third time downing Eagle and Mtn View 52-75-79 without #3 runner Jacque Sahlberg (playing in the state soccer playoffs. (she scored tie breaking goal to propel her team to the championship final!) An under the weather Sarah Olson lead the Braves in 4th 19:07 and was followed closely by teammates Anne Loveless 5th, 19:09, Rebekah McGourty 7th 19:15 and Frosh Katie Loveless 10th 19:53. Fiona Wilhelm 26th, 20:51 rounded out the scoring. Karleigh Gempler of Borah rebounded from a season long funk to win her 3rd district title in 4 years (losing only to Dana Morgan last year) in 18:34, she was followed by team mate Nicole Neilsen in 18:41 and Mtn View's Bug Simmons in 18:48. BOYS : The strength of #6 NW Borah's front runners held off a determined Mtn View 41 to 43. Mtn View broke up Borah's normal 3,4,5 pack narrowly missing out on the upset. Boise finished 3rd with 60 points. Sean Huey and defending State Champion Sawyer Bosch finished 2nd and 3rd behind Nick Bolinder of Boise (15:48) in 15:52 and 15:59. Borah's other scorer's were spread out in the top 18 with an uncharacteristic 1:11, 1 to 5 gap. Mtn View made it close but couldn't pull it off with a :29 second 1 to 5 gap. Bolinder ran a controlled effort not taking the lead for good until he was over the hill about a mile from the finish. The course while at the site of the Bob Firman Invite is significantly different wth many more grass and turns to slow the times. |
