Boys - Girls

BOYS

SO#1/US#13 Southlake Carroll TX

made its annual migration south to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islander Splash. The Dragons brought back the gold, scoring 75 with 4 in the top 16. Corpus Christi Carroll TX followed with 122 ahead of Clear Lake TX’s 138. Southlake Carroll jr Colby Lowe, the state 3200 champ last spring at 9:05.17, won handily in 15:09 for the hilly 3-miler. Coach Robert Ondasek said, "We have battled injuries (sr Chris Moore missed this meet) which has allowed others a chance to step up. Our kids have not disappointed. I truly believe that this is what coaching is about. Championships are nice, but building character and class in kids is forever."

stayed close to home and dominated the Aldine Invite. Woodlands sr Alex Neff was an easy winner in 15:39 for the flat 5K under hot, humid conditions. Overall The Woodlands placed 1-2-3-4-7-8-15. Coach Dan Green commented, "The season is really going well, thanks to the great summer that our upper classmen had. The great thing about this season is that everyone seems to be a part of the team. The weekly workouts are tough and the guys are running them better than any team I have had."

SO#4 Kingwood TX

SO#6 Cedar Park TX

SO#7 Vista Ridge TX

The Klein Invite had a deep field of ranked teams and other strong schools. However, many of the top squads chose to rest key individuals. A&M Consolidated sr Duncan Phillips pulled away mid-way through the race, looking very comfortable and powerful cruising home in 15:29. A&M Coach Mike Skinner commented, "I told Duncan to just stay with the leaders and if you feel it, go at the mile-and-a-half." A&M put 3 others in the top 11, tallying 40 points for the title, while holding out its normal #4 whose nursing a sore foot. Cedar Park edged hometown rival Vista Ridge 84-85 as both teams rested part of their top 7 (Vista Ridge’s #4 was on a college recruiting trip - for golf!). Klein TX was next with 144. In 5th was Kingwood which elected to rest its top 5. Kingwood Coach Tate Symons plan was to "see who would step up to make the Nike South squad. Our training is going well, we just haven’t put it all together in a race yet." It will be interesting at next week’s Nike South Invite as these teams and others should be at full strength.

SO#5 Tupelo MS

took the top 6 slots at the Corinth Invite, the team’s 57 second 1-5 spread resulting in a perfect score of 15. Conditions were near perfect with the temperature in the high 70's, hazy skies blocking a full sun, a slight breeze, and low humidity. Tupelo jr Rob Ellis’s goal was to break 16:00 on this fast course and he did just that, clocking 15:52 for the individual title.

SO#8 Georgetown TX

headed east to Florida for the flrunners7.com Invite in Tampa. The trip was a success as they tallied 157 for the team crown. Georgetown sr Josh Litos was in the hunt for the individual title before settling for 7th in 15:48, leading his team to a 16:30 average. Tampa Sickels FL, 17th at Great American, was next with 185 followed by Tampa Jesuit FL with 234.

Georgetown Coach Andrew Braun said, "It was great for spectators and was run very efficiently by the staff there. The course was more flat than we are used to here in Texas, but had some other obstacles that made it more difficult - mud pits, sand, and a lot of turns. It was also cool to run at night under the lights. As for our race, it was great and my boys said one of the best and most fun they have ever done." He added, "We ended up in Florida because my boys decided they wanted a meet out-of-state this year. They raised all the money themselves over the summer."

SO#9 Rogers AR

traveled to neighboring Oklahoma for the OSU Cowboy Jamboree. This 70th annual meet, the oldest consecutive cross country race in the US, drew some of the best teams from Oklahoma and surrounding states. Rogers jr Aaron Hamilton moved from 12th to 5th over the last mile, clocking 16:37, as Rogers topped this strong field, scoring 80 with 5 in the top 27.

Mustang OK sr Kevin Schwab won by a wide margin while equaling his own 15:35 course record, a mark he shares with Mark Thompson, the 1996 Foot Locker National 7th place finisher and 4:08.60 miler.

Rogers Coach Carlton Efurd said, "What a great surprise! I was hoping to finish in the top 3 today. I thought if we ran well we would have a chance to win. The last time we won was in 1999. Eric (co-captain Molina) was the only guy with experience on this course which has a tough 2nd mile running through the ravine. The team is getting tested and that is going to help us down the road."

was triumphant at the OSU Cowboy Jamboree in Oklahoma. With 3 in the top 9, Bentonville scored 78 to outdistance Kickapoo MO, its nearest competitor with 97. Rogers AR grabbed the bronze with 104 points. Tulsa Union jr Sara Vaughn edged Westmoore soph Katelyn 11:29-11:30 for the individual title over 3200 meters. Bentonville Coach Randy Ramaker’s assessment is "To be quite honest it was not our best performance. We do not normally run 3200m, but on the track four of our top five have run well under 12:00 so I knew we had the speed for the event. It was hot and our normal 4th runner struggled for some reason. I was happy with the win and we did get solid performances from the kids and our depth pulled us through."
